"Isn't it funny how many things we do without thinking? We know we can never undo it, but we don't even consider the consequences anyway." -Sakura Haruno
Sakura trudged through the forest for what felt like hours, exhaustion weighing down her limbs. She hadn't shown it of course, but what she'd done had taken a lot out of her. She still wasn't sure why she'd killed them. Had they really deserved it? At the time, it felt like she had no choice, but now...
She crossed her arms over her chest protectively. No. What's done is done. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't take it back.
She felt a sudden chakra presence to her right, and twisted sharply around. Her kunai hovered millimeters from the throat of a black haired man in a cloak with red clouds.
He smirked, unconcerned with the fact that she could penetrate his flesh at any moment. "Still sharp as ever I see."
Her irritated scowl melted into a grin, and she dropped the kunai and flung herself at him.
"I missed you." She muttered into the color of his cloak.
"I missed you too, Little Blossom." Itachi Uchiha sighed, and stroked her pink hair.
After a few seconds she pulled back. "So how have you been? Why are you here? I thought Sasuke-"
He frowned slightly. "Well, I'm doing fine, except my eyes are getting worse. I'm here because Leader-sama wants me to recruit you. And," He put a finger to her lips to shush her exclamation of surprise. "No, Sasuke hasn't killed me yet. Obviously."
"Pein wants me to join the Akatsuki?" Sakura gasped when he removed his finger.
Itachi nodded and frown lines creased his forehead. "Why did you do it?"
She sighed heavily, knowing exactly what he was talking about. "I don't know."
Itachi's eyes widened microscopically; this girl was one of the few for whom he would lower his emotionless wall. "What do you mean, you don't know?" He demanded, gripping her shoulders. "You don't just kill a few dozen people for no particular reason!"
