"This doesn't decide your worth," you insisted gently, "you don't need them!"
He laughed. "Yeah, but maybe they need someone like me."
You were silent for a moment before replying. "Maybe there's something else you can do to help."
He narrowed his eyes. "Like what?"
You were thoughtful for a moment. "Well, I heard about this experimental programme that's looking for candidates."
He continued to stare at you blankly. "Do you want to try out?" You asked.
"Yes," he said. "Why not?"
