A couple of days had passed and every day after work I would hang out with Bruno. I had decided to put Lena's word on a mental shelf and continue my life. Bruno had taken me to this night club. I was sporting a little black dress that had a single strap and just barely met my knees. I was meeting people and seeing this whole side of NY I had never imagined. I guess it took an out of towner to give me that push. Bruno had taken me to a party where he claimed to know the guy who was throwing it. I felt that my hand had been taken by Bruno and was leading me through a crowd of people until we met up with a tall, brawny man standing in front of a door. Because the music was so loud and the bass was bumping so heavily, I couldn't hear a word they were saying. I only saw Bruno say something into his ear and he stepped aside and allowed us to pass.

Lena's POV

It was late. Too late. I hated that she was staying out like this. I was too worried to sleep so I stayed up waiting for her like I was her mother waiting to catch her breaking curfew. Looking down at my phone for a text or missed call, I had noticed that it was 3:30 am. Erica hated staying out past 2.

"Nothing good ever happens after 2 am. When It's 2 am, just go to sleep." I had heard her say that philosophy for so long, I could hear her voice in my head saying it. Alex and I had picked on her about that personal rule of hers, but now, I would have given anything just to see her walk through that door at 1:59. I heard a throat clearing noise and looked up at Jack.

"What?" I asked knowing that he didn't say anything.

"Nothing." he said. It grew silent again. The two of us were sitting on the couch of my apartment watching Grey's anatomy. Things were still a little rocky after our last conversation but we chose to act like it didn't happen. It was eating at me.

"You don't have to wait with me." I told him.

"She's my friend too." he said.

"Are you sure?" I asked muttering.

"What did you say?" he asked.

"Nothing." I lied.

"Lena, what did you say?" he asked again. I sighed knowing what was about to happen.

"I asked if you were sure." I said clearly.

"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked sitting up. There was no turning back at this point. I had gotten myself in too deep. I looked away and focused my eyes on a loose thread that was sticking out of the bottom of my shirt.

"Come on Jack." I said. "Are you really going to make me say it" I asked practically begging him not to let me finish my theory. I sighed.

"What is it Lena!?" he asked. I could hear just how fed up he was with my being so aloof.

"I see how you light up when you think she'll be around. I see how you tend to dress a little better when we're all together." I started.

"What are saying?" he asked. He had turned off the television and his eyes were focused on me like a laser. I knew what I was saying, but I couldn't help but feel a lump in the back of my throat. I paused and met his gaze.

"You and Erica have a history. I know I can never change that." I started, but swallowed hard at the words I was about to say. "Do you still have feelings for her?" I asked quietly. Jack's eyes grew wider before we heard the door knob of the front door turn. We both looked up and saw Erica slowly entered the apartment.

"Oh, hey guys." she said sheepishly.

"I have to go." Jack said taking his jacket from the nearby chair. "This isn't over" he said just before he brushed past Erica and went through the door without closing it.
