Chapter One - Knock Knock

(Y/N)

You lean against a familiar door in Snowdin, feeling quite lonely. It had been five months since you, Frisk, and the monsters have left the Underground after Asriel Dreemurr broke the Barrier.

You knock on the familiar door, practicing knock knock jokes for no reason whatsoever.

"Knock knock. 'Who's there?' Daisy. 'Daisy who?' Daisy you, silly!"

You chuckle at your pun, but sigh, hoping a voice would answer. You began to do another joke, even though no one was there.

"Knock knock."

"Who's there?"

You gasp, feeling embarrassed. Apparently, someone was still inside, and probably woke up because of you. You didn't know why someone would still be inside the house, but you decided to continue the joke.

"Who."

"Who who-" The deep voice paused and a deep laugh was muffled behind the door. You laugh as well, exclaiming, "I didn't know you had an owl!"

"Well, I got a joke for you," the deep voice said. You say, "Blow me away!"

"Knock knock..."

"Who's there?"

"I'll see."

"I'll see who?"

"Why, You'll see me, (Y/N)!"

The door opened, and you nearly land on the floor, only for you to be floating just a couple of inches away from the ground. You look up to see your soul blue, and you blush in realization as a skeleton grabbed you, and laid you on their couch.

"Heya, (Y/N). I was wondering where you were," the skeleton said to you.

"Oh," you say. "I forgot to tell you I was going to be here, Sans. Sorry about that." You chortle as Sans replied, "I figured you'd be at my doorstep anyway. You always wanted to be here, practicing knock knock jokes like I used to do, before someone actually responded to me."

"And by 'someone', you mean by Toriel?" you question, raising one of your eyebrows. "Exactly," Sans admitted. "I just... Forget her name, that's all." "Oh really?" you ask, your eyebrow still raised.

Sans laughed. "Alright, fine, ya caught me there," Sans said as he walked into another room.

You sat up and yawned. You had been in the Underground for at least seven and a half hours, just thinking before you started doing a knock knock joke at Sans' doorstep.

Sans came back and sat next to you. You were both silent and it's started becoming quite awkward. Finally, Sans spoke. "(Y/N), I wanted to talk to you about something," said Sans as you rest your head on his bony shoulder.

"What is it, Sans?" you murmur as you started falling asleep.

"I wanted to talk about how you - I mean - Chara tried turning Papyrus into dust." You sat back upright, fully awake once again. "Sans, come on.. You know I don't like talking about it..." you mutter, narrowing your eyes down at Sans.

"Geez, bud," Sans joked. Suddenly, the white pricks in his eyes disappeared, and he turned to you. "I just wanted to clarify some...things," Sans told you angrily. You gulp, but then responded, fists balled, "If you're going to try to scare answers outta ME, it ain't gonna work, Sans. And like I said, you know I don't like talking about it."

The white pricks returned in Sans' eyes and he sighed. "Fine," he said. "But just so you know..." The pricks disappeared again and Sans muttered, "Your sins will crawl on your back."

The pricks reappeared as Sans calmed himself. Those words had always chilled you, but you shrugged it off this time.

"Sans?" you ask quietly. Sans turned to you and you say, "Let's head back to the surface. You could teleport us back up, right?"

"Well, I could, (Y/N), but I'd rather take the scenic route with you," Sans answered. You smile as you and Sans exit the house, hand in hand. You start walking through Snowdin, Hotland, and so forth to the broken Barrier, where the surface shown, and the moon glistened.

"Beautiful tonight, huh, Sans?" you ask, smiling. "Yeah," Sans mumbled. You both start walking down to the rest of the monsters, who are probably waiting.

"You going to stay at my place again?" Sans asked you. You nod as he said, "Well, okay bud. You could have the bed again while I get the couch."

"Alright," you respond casually as the moonlight shone above the two of you.

You felt safe and warm in the cold night when you were holding Sans' hand. For a skeleton, he was quite warm.

You still remember when you first met Sans when you shook his hand. The whoopee cushion, following his order of hiding behind the lamp; it was great. But, it felt so long ago.

And you still remember...that. You shudder as you tried to not grasp that memory.

You were lucky for Sans to stop you before you...did that..

You were lucky to command Frisk to warn him about...them. You didn't want to think about it anymore.

You look around your surroundings, still holding Sans' hand. You felt glad he was with you. You knew you liked - no - loved him, but you don't even know if he loves you, or at least LIKED you.

But you didn't care. As long as you were with Sans, you were fine.

As long as Sans was nearby, you were fine.

As long as Sans was beside you...

You were you.

And you knew that, too.

If only you knew if he knew that, too..
