Chapter Nine - The Scenic Route

(Y/N)

Today was Frisk's birthday, and you were planting the strange, silvery flower in a fine flowerpot. Wrapping a ribbon around the flowerpot, you carefully picked it up and grasped in your palms.

"Sans, you ready?" you called out. "Almost, buddy," Sans answered from his room. You sat on the couch, being careful not to let the flowerpot slip from your hands. You began relaxing, the couch surprisingly super comfy.

"Okay, I'm ready, (Y/N)," Sans said, stepping out of his room. You yelped, nearly dropping Frisk's present on the ground. You narrowed your eyes at Sans and screamed out his name. Sans laughed. "What's wrong (Y/N)? Did I do something?" he asked sarcastically. You growled.

"Other than making me nearly drop Frisk's birthday present, you did nothing," you answer, scowling. Sans laughed again. "Sorry, bud," he apologized, chuckling lightly. You sigh. "It's fine, Sans.." you say. You stared at Sans for a moment, before narrowing your eyes at him again. "Sans... Where is your present for Frisk?" you ask.

Sans pulled out a wrapped box from his pocket before saying, "Don't worry, I have the kid's present."

You remember how Sans didn't have a present a few days before Frisk's birthday, and that you may have forced him to get one for them.

"So, are we going?" asked Sans, who placed the present back in his pocket. You nodded, standing up. "Let's go," you instruct, heading for the door. "Wait!" Sans called out. You turned back to him, your hand gripping the door knob. "What?" you ask, an eyebrow raised. "Shall I teleport us to Toriel's? It'll be much more faster," Sans asked you.

You shook your head. "Let's take the scenic route for today. I want to spend some more time with you," you said, opening the door. Sans shrugged. "Well, if you say, pal."

You smiled as you stepped outside. "Well, come on, lazy bones!" you exclaim, chuckling. Sans nodded as he stood right beside you. You grabbed his hand, the flowerpot in your other hand, as you were smiling widely, while feeling yourself beginning to blush.

Sans

I lightly blushed as (Y/N) grabbed my hand. I felt so... Alive when I was with her. She was something or someone to care about, other than Papyrus. I was honestly relieved when she wanted us to take a scenic route instead of teleporting.

"Sans?" (Y/N) asked. I tilted my head. "Yeah?" "Where's Papyrus?" she asked. "Oh. He woke up more earlier than me, and is probably inside Toriel's house already," I answered casually.

We began walking afterwards, and we had been silent. (Y/N) was just taking in the view, while I was staring at her. I finally decided to break the silence and asked, "Wanna head somewhere else?"

(Y/N) looked at me. "Where?" she questioned, seemingly excited for a moment. I chortled lightly. "May I teleport us there? I already feel tired of walking," I asked, chuckling. (Y/N) nodded, rolling her eyes, and I snapped my fingers, as we arrived to where we first left the Underground, five months ago.

I sat down on the ledge, (Y/N) sitting beside me. She placed Frisk's flowerpot beside us, as she stared at the view, silently. Our feet dangled on the edge as we stared at the beautiful view before us. "Doesn't this view look lovely?" asked (Y/N) quietly. "Sure does, bud," I answered. (Y/N) leaned against me, and I looked down at her, as I proceeded to stroke her hair. (Y/N) giggled as I felt her place her arm around me.

I started ruffling her hair as (Y/N) giggled again. "You're beautiful (Y/N); you know that?" I complimented as I continued ruffling her hair more. I noticed (Y/N) blush, and I chuckled lightly. "Thanks, Sans," she uttered, the warm breeze blowing by. "Heh.. You're welcome..." I mumbled.

Before I knew it, (Y/N) was hugging me tightly. Surprised, I hugged her back, unable to react.

I don't know how long that hug lasted, but it felt like it would've lasted forever. We were as still as statues, sitting at the edge of Mt. Ebott. "I don't want to let go..." I heard (Y/N) whisper. "Me either..." I replied.

Suddenly, (Y/N) gasped. "(Y/N)? What's wrong?" I said, concerned. "Frisk's birthday! We're going to be late!" (Y/N) exclaimed, as she picked up the flowerpot. I shrugged. "So? It's better late than never, right?" I asked. (Y/N) sighed heavily. "Just teleport us to Toriel's! Quick!" she ordered.

"Alright..." I mumbled, snapping my bony fingers. In an instant, we arrived at Toriel's, (Y/N) knocking rapidly on the door. My shoulders sagged, realizing what moment we had was kind of ruined.

"Finally, you arrived! What took you two so long?!" Toriel scolded. "Sorry, Toriel," (Y/N) apologized. "We just need to... Take a pit stop, nothing more." "Ah, I see," Toriel mumbled. "Well, I hope you won't be late to something this special, again. Come in, you two," Toriel said.

I followed (Y/N) as I looked around. There was quite a bit of us here, like Undyne, Alphys, Asgore, etc.

"OH, HELLO (Y/N) AND SANS!" Papyrus exclaimed. "Heya, Pap," I greeted as I proceeded to head in the kitchen.

I sighed with relief for the kitchen being empty. Slouching in one of the chairs, I mumbled to myself, "...I wish we could've stayed there for a little bit longer..."

Authors Note:
I made this in the middle of the night.. So, not much was in my mind, but I thought this was good enough.

If this chapter doesn't seem like the usual length that it is... Sorry.
