RAISON D'ÊTRE
THIRTY-FOURTH

STEVE HAD DEVISED A PLAN to try and get to the Quinjet, which was located on the other side of the airport. While he'd gone to speak with Stark on the tarmac, one group would go around on the right side while another group went on the left. They knew that it'd most likely fail because of Stark, but as long as they could cause a few distractions along the way, so be it. Rome had joined Bucky and Sam as they ran through one of the terminals, and she could immediately feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins. She'd never been one for fighting, but today she'd fight until her knuckles were bloody and her voice too tired to utter another spell.

They'd been running for a while, and Rome nearly faltered when she saw something red and blue crawling along the window outside. It looked like a person, but they moved so fast she didn't think it could be. Even when Bucky had gently tugged on her arm to help her run faster, she couldn't comprehend what it was.

"What the hell is that?" Bucky shouted, finally looking at the thing Rome had been looking at for a few seconds.

Sam nearly scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Everyone's got a gimmick."

The witch's eyes went wide when she saw the figure push off the window then swing themselves inside, glass shattering and raining down. They rammed straight into Sam, and when he tried swinging at Rome, she stumbled backwards with a surprised grunt and watched as his fist soared past her face. He tried punching Bucky, but the soldier easily caught his throw.

"You have a metal arm?!" they exclaimed, their eyes under their mask growing wide with awe. Rome nearly froze in shock; they sounded young, like a teenage boy, and her brows furrowed. What the hell was Stark thinking, bringing a child into a fight like this? "That is awesome, dude!"

Sam suddenly jumped, wings springing out of the pack as he dove for the red and blue boy. Both of them went flying as he struggled trying to punch Sam, all the while shouting, "You have the right to remain silent!"

As soon as he freed himself, the boy swung himself up at the ceiling beams while Sam shot at him. He managed to dodge each one, and even did so when Bucky managed to throw a sign in his direction.

Bucky grabbed hold of Rome's arm, tugging her into his chest as they hid behind a pillar. She could feel his heart thundering against her back, and together, they both slowly peeked their heads around the corner. "Hey, buddy, I think you lost this!" came the boy's shout followed by the sign previously thrown crashing into their pillar.

Rome popped out from behind, hands held up as she shouted a spell. "Lec tare sel vipre!" she yelled, grinning in satisfaction when the debris stopped, as if it hit an invisible barrier. Then it suddenly launched towards Spider-Man, and he let out a pitiful shout as he swung from support beam to support beam. Something did manage to knick him in the thigh, but nothing too awful. Rome didn't want to hurt him; he sounded young and he'd got caught up in their problems. But obviously he didn't share the same sentiment.

When a rather larger piece came shooting straight towards him, he shot his webs at it and managed to sling it back like a slingshot. Her eyes went wide and felt a body suddenly crash into hers, slamming her onto the cold tiled ground with a heavy thud. The blonde grunted loudly, already feeling a bruise starting to form on her back, and worry started to fill her mind. Was it... no, no, she couldn't focus on that now; she'd worry later. She looked up, pressing a quick kiss as thanks to Bucky's cheek before pushing herself off the ground.
