*Recap*
"What is it? WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER?" I yelled, losing my shit.
"Miss Atherton please calm down."
"Just, please...please tell me. What's wrong?" I asked, my voice weak, barely above a whisper.
"Miss Atherton, your sister..."
*End of recap*
"...has got a brain tumour." What. No. No. No. No.
"No. No she doesn't. You're lying."
"I'm sorry Miss Atherton but it's true. It's not as bad as others but we will have to shave her hair so we can operate on her head and take it out before it spreads." I didn't say anything. I just stared at him.
*Ashton's POV*
I woke up and looked around and realised Kathy wasn't there. I checked my phone to see what time it was, 1.37am. Wow we've been here for almost two hours. Wait why are we at the hosp-FUCK! ADDY! I ditched the boys and ran to the reception.
"Excuse me miss whe-"
"You were with that young girl, Miss Atherton I believe?" She asked sweetly.
"Yes that's correct."
"She's in room 204, 6th floor. The doctor had some news for her, she left about 10 minutes ago."
"Thank you." I replied and ran to the elevator. I waited impatiently counting the floors as I went up. I finally got to the 6th floor, I sprinted to room 204 and waited outside the room for a few minutes to catch my breath seeing as I just woke up. Once I could breathe properly, I walked into the room and instantly saw Kathy. She was just standing there, staring into nothing. Her face was as pale as a ghost and she looked like she was about to pass out.
"Kathy?" I asked softly.
"Kathy!" I ran up to her and shook her shoulders lightly.
"What's wrong with her?" I asked the doctor frantically when she didn't respond.
"She's in shock." He replied plainly.
"Why is she in shock?" I asked nervously. I only then noticed Addy hooked up to stacks of machines. Oh god no.
"Her sister, she has a brain tumour." I didn't know how to react. I just stood there. I felt a hand slide into mine. I turned around and faced Kathy. The tears had started and she finally showed some emotion for the first time in a few hours. She started to walk backwards, she backed herself into the wall and slid down it, bawling her eyes out. I sat down next to her and she sat in my lap crying into my chest. I felt tears rolling down my cheeks as the information began to sink in.
"I'll leave you two alone." The doctor walked out of the room and we were left in the room to listen to nothing but the beep of the machines and the sounds of our sobs. I don't know how long had passed but it was well over an hour and we were still in the same position when the boys walked in. Kathy was asleep with her head in my lap, she was crying in her sleep. I checked my phone, 4.52am.
"What's wrong?" Luke asked.
"Is Addy alright?" Calum wondered as he walked over to her in the bed.
"Is she going to be ok? Is Kathy ok?" I slowly stood up and took my jacket off to put around her as she slept on the plastic ground of the hospital. Luke handed me his jumper for her to use as a pillow.
"Addy has," my voice cracked halfway through,
"she has a uhm, brain tumour." I told them. Their reactions scared me. Calum walked out of the room and just sat in the hallway with his head in his hands, Michael started punching the wall and hitting his head against it and Luke just collapsed on the ground next to Addy's bed and started crying.
"I know it's horrible but we have to be strong for Kathy. She's got it the worst, it's her sister and we need to try and be strong, just around her. Please I don't want her to have to see us moping around we need to help her get through this." I whispered careful not to wake her.
"I'll try. But I can't guarantee that I won't break down. I have grown so close to her these last few days and now I find out this. It's-it's too much." Luke said, his voice rough and raspy.
"Thank you Luke this is going to be hard but we're going to have to push through this together." I said the tears starting again.
"I'll try too." Mikey said turning to face us. His cheeks tear stained.
"Calum?" I walked into the corridor but he wasn't there. I walked around when I saw the bathroom door closing slowly. I walked in hoping to find Calum, I did.
"Calum? Oh god are you ok mate? What's wrong?" He was really pale and he was leaning over the sink splashing his face with water.
"I feel sick. Why Addy? Why her? She doesn't deserve this? She's only little, this shou-" He couldn't finish his sentence because he started gagging, he ran into one of the stalls and started vomiting. I walked in and kneeled next to him rubbing his back.
"I feel like shit. She doesn't fucking deserve this. NO ONE FUCKING DESERVES THIS!" He yelled before throwing up again.
"Calum..." I stared at him worried. Why was he throwing up?
"I'm sorry when I get mad or upset I get really sick. Don't worry about it, I'll be fine." He said standing up and putting his mouth under the tap to rinse it out.
"Are you sure?" I was crying again.
"I won't be fine but I'm not going to throw up again." He said as he started to cry with me.
"Why her? Why Addy? She doesn't deserve this..." He wailed as he walked over to me. We hugged each other while crying. Once we got most of it out of our system we walked back to the hospital room. Kathy was asleep where I left her and Luke and Mikey were sitting on the couch near the hospital bed watching her, silently crying.
"Any doctors come in? Anything happen at all?" I asked quickly.
"One of the doctors came in but he said he'll be back in 10 minutes, that was 5 minutes ago and Addy wiggled her fingers but that was about it." Mikey answered. Luke didn't move. Not one bit, he just stared at the innocent young girl in the hospital bed.
"NO! DON'T TOUCH ME! ASHTON HELP ME! PLEASE! SOMEONE! Someone..." Suddenly Kathy was rolling around screaming and crying, I was convinced that she was awake but one look at her rolling on the ground and I knew she was having a nightmare. Then her eyes snapped open and she rolled into the wall and started sobbing. I jogged over to her and sat down with her. I pulled her onto my lap and played with her hair.
"Hey shhh, it was just a dream. It was just a dream." I mumbled into her hair.
"But-but it wasn't..." She mumble before falling asleep in my arms once more. Crying more than ever. What does she mean 'it wasn't?' I'll ask her when we get all this crazy shit together.
