All the area in a radius of about twenty metres of the building seemed to reverberate with the melancholy echoes of skilfully played cello. The player appeared to be in a low mood, which seemed to reflect in his music as the same chords had been played several times earlier in his career as an uplifting and joyous tune yet had managed to sound like a death march that day.
When the echoes reflected off the walls and amplified before they reached his ears, he sighed and put down his cello. He had been feeling a little off for a couple of days but he hadn't been able to pinpoint the cause of his unease. It hadn't been physical illness as he had even had a checkup and nothing had been observed to be out of the ordinary. He hadn't been overtly exhausted either, so he presumed it had to be something related to his feelings as he had been feeling some rather unusual feelings of late.
He attempted to root out the cause of his unease by retracing his steps over the past couple of days. There hadn't been a lot that was quite out of the ordinary except for how much the mezzo soprano in his A Cappella phenomenon of a group had had a dreamy look in her eyes whenever he saw her.
She had seemed so in love with her fiancé and that had seemed to be all that mattered to her but that hadn't stopped her from giving her best to her career. Jeremy had been every bit a gentleman and had been quite nice to everyone so the resident beatboxer of the group had nothing against him personally except that he seemed to have the privilege of having Kirstin by his side for the rest of their lives.
Knowing Kirstin, he knew she wouldn't leave them all behind once she got married would still stick by their side even if, God forbid, Pentatonix ever came to an end. She would include them in her closest circles because of how close they had all become. She was such an amazing person and he was truly glad she wouldn't go out of their lives like that.
He remembered back to when he had first met his bandmates and he had had quite some trouble pronouncing her name. When he finally got it right, the ecstasy on her face was infectious as he laughed too. He had even had a slight crush on her in those early days but had given up hope of it ever working out after she had met Jeremy and had appeared so smitten with him.
There had been days when he regretted not letting Kirstin know that he liked her before it was too late, and then there were days when he was glad he hadn't because he saw just how happy Jeremy made her and, truth be told, her happiness was truly all that mattered to him.
Even though he still loved her a lot, now it had evolved into a sisterly, or, rather, brotherly love for he was determined to be the brother she never had. She could have Mitch and Scott as her brothers since she'd known them longer but he would still be there for her.
He would help her in the blink of an eye if she needed it. He would tell Jeremy that he'd hurt him if he hurt Kirstin even though violence was against his every fibre. He, however, wouldn't interfere when she wouldn't want him to. He wouldn't intrude on her happiness.
His thoughts brought out a smile onto his face as he realized he could still keep her in high spirits without stepping in between her and her happiness and Jeremy. He could still be her personal cheerleader and keep her from falling down a spiral that he knew would be insanely difficult to climb up again. He would be there to push her up if she needed a boost to reach the top where she belonged.
His eyes searched for his phone and zeroed in on it in no time as he walked over and turned it on. He opened the messaging service he had and went to his chat with Kirstin. He smiled as he realized she had sent him a good morning note that he hadn't seen. He texted her back, hoping to start performing his job as her cheerleader as soon as he could.
'Hey!'
'Kevin, hey! Whatcha up to?'
He fondly eyed his cello which he had named Beyoncé. She definitely was a highlight of his life and career so it seemed appropriate that he mention her.
'Oh, nothing much, just playing around with Beyoncé. What about you?'
'I bet Beyoncé's having the time of her life, as she has been ever since you two met! I'm getting ready for the show we have today evening.'
A frown found its way onto his face as he remembered that he had completely forgotten about the show. He wasn't supposed to be the one who forgot things, that was usually Avi. He guffawed as he remembered the countless instances the bass cannon had forgotten and messed up stuff.
'Oops, I totally forgot about that! Luckily, I'm free today!'
'I swear, you've been hanging around Avi far too long!'
'Can I tell you something, Kirst?'
'Sure!'
'When you smile, the whole world stops and stands for a while, 'cause you're amazing just the way you are'
'Aww, thank you so much, Kevin, I definitely feel better after that! Meet you tonight, alright?'
Kevin smiled as he realized he could be every bit of a cheerleader for her and he would. Why wouldn't he, after all?
