CHAPTER SEVEN:

TASTE OF RIVERDALE

JUGHEAD AND VIRGINIA HAD TO WALK TO POP'S, as both didn't own cars. It was a peaceful night and the silence between the two was natural. They entered Pop's and Virginia noticed how Jughead immediately focused on the scout who was watching them with Doiley. Jug briskly walked over to his table and Virginia watched his dark clothes sway with his movement and she rolled her eyes at his typical flannel around his waist. What a basic outfit.

But Virginia knew she was being biased as she glanced down at her typical outfit of Converse and her jean jacket with patches. She knew that most kids at Riverdale were rich and could afford labeled clothing but Virginia wasn't and all she could afford was secondhand clothing from Goodwill.

"What the hell, man?" Virginia sighed as she closed in on the table and sat beside Jughead, who had taken it upon himself to eat the scout's milkshake. She watched in distain as Jug scooped up another spoonful and offered it to her, shrugging when she declined a bite.

"I saw the way you looked at me." Jughead stated, licking the spoon clean, "During Grizzly training. You're hiding something."

"It's Scoutmaster Doily. He's lying." The younger boy told them and Virginia wondered why the boy was still in his uniform.

"About what?" Virginia interrupted, placing her elbows on the table, intrigued, ignoring Jug eating up the boys ice cream.

"The gunshot. It was him." The boy leaned closer to the duo, glancing around nervously. "He was teaching us how to shoot targets."

"Dilton Doiley shot the gun on July 4th?" Jughead breathed out, in clarification, pointing the spoon at the young boy. This was big news to the duo. Everything was so hush hush about the investigation, did the police know about this?

"He's a hardcore survivalist. He says if we don't protect ourselves, no one will." Doiley whispered, leaning in. He glanced down at his half eaten shake and shook his head before standing up and disappearing.

"That was interesting," Virginia exclaimed, standing up from the spot in the booth. "Doiley is such a snake!" She threw her hands up in the air, confused to why Doiley would lie.

"I don't know what to feel about him yet," Jughead mused. "He's hiding something and I plan to find out what that was."

From her position beside Jughead near the entrance, Virginia noticed Hermione waiting for her. The older woman motioned for Virginia to join her and Virginia turned to Jughead, pouting.
