Konnya panted as she tripped and almost fell on the wet cobblestones. She whipped her head around. No one behind her. She skidded around the closest building. Shivering, she hugged herself and flipped up her hood. She leaned against the building, and tried to catch her breath.

Clomp...clomp...clomp...

Konnya peered into the dark street. A silhouette of a man slowly walked toward the building she hid behind. He started to whistle as he hit random objects with his cane.

Konnya pushed her soaked hair behind one ear, and wiped away the rain dripping off her chin. Her watch buzzed and she flipped it open.

The image of a gold key hovered above the watch for a second before disappearing. The watch started to beep the high pitched sound of a message.

Konnya winced and fumbled to turn the sound off. She peeked around the corner to check on the man. He banged around a few trash barrels.

She had a few minutes.

Konnya hopped from one foot to the other while she waited for the message to load. A green light flashed and words started to flow across the watch.

Return immediately. Emergency meeting in library.

The man's footsteps sounded closer. Konnya took off her glove and squeezed the emerald ring on her finger. A vibration worked its way up her arm and into her neck. She held her breath.

The alley around her started to spin. As always, the air in her lungs was pushed out, and her temples tightened.

The alley spun faster and faster until it was only hazy lines of color. Konnya had the sensation of floating, and for a moment everything went grey. The pressure in her lungs faded, and she sucked in as much air as she could. Voices started as a whisper, and grew as she materialized.
