Ellina entered the cavern. Bright Stones lined her path, giving the surroundings a blue glow. She took a deep breath. The last time she'd stood here was for Naming. 300 years ago.
She place three fingers on her shoulder and bowed to the last of the Ancients. To the younger Elders, she formally lowered her head. She fought to keep her voice steady. "All stars will turn to darkness."
Keeping her head down, she closed her eyes and waited for the response. They would either accept her request for a meeting, or turn her away.
A man with a beard tucked into his belt and a face that resembled an owl stepped forward. "But stories of their light will be remembered."
Some of the tension drained out of Ellina. So far so good. She straightened her shoulders and met every one of their eyes before she spoke again. "I am Ellina, the Listener. I hear the mountains tell stories. I hear the loneliness of the wind. I hear the cries of galaxies."
The oldest of them all, blind, with hair as silver as moonlight, and a voice like a bear, waved his hand back and forth. "I am Elline. I know what you hear." His lips stretched in a sad smile. "You've heard a cry for help. One from a world you believe has no idea it sent the message."
Ellina nodded. "You've heard it too?"
"Haven't I heard the same cry for years? There are always people who want help."
"I know this, Sir. But want and need are very different."
He nodded with a distant smile.
She breathed out through her mouth, clasped her hands behind her back, and resisted the urge to pace. "A planet tri'lies of miles away is dying. The stars and the sun are going out. Time there is rippling, so you might be a baby one minute and an old man the next, and then in the prime of health, all in a never ending cycle. Injuries are never healing, some people cannot die."
Ellina witnessed all the Elders and Ancients go white. She lowered her voice, "How can we sit back and watch when we can help?"
*Wink wink* I'm baaackk! Hehe, I want ALL THE THOUGHTS!! And remember: vote vote vote :)
