They had gotten into a routine.
Margaret would wake up, ensure everything was prepared for Joker when he awoke. Joker would wake up, eat and leave.
Margaret would spend her days housekeeping, washing the clothes in a bucket, hanging them on a rope she had 'installed' and shopping when required. She had been enjoying the television, she had seen the report on them, finding such allegations hilarious.
When...if Joker returned from 'work,' he would change, Margaret would patch up any injuries, they would eat, watch TV and then head to bed.
Eventually she became annoyed that Joker wore nothing other than his suits, and therefore bought him matching pyjamas. He scoffed at first, but was persuaded with offerings of lollipops. They had continued on like this for about three months, until Margaret had an idea.
"Do you want to go out tonight?" Margaret asked one afternoon.
"Depends on where Lollipop." He stated, with an unenthusiastic tone, assuming she would have a common idea of a 'night out' in mind.
"I do not know, somewhere thrilling! Like a rollercoaster, or, or a gang shoot out! Wait! I know, we can throw eggs from the top of a building at moving cars!" Margaret shook with excitement.
"I like the way you think Lollipop." He stated, sucking on a gumdrop.
She bought eight cartons of eggs; separating the purchases over four shops.
They found a building with a cleaner's lift and made their way to the top of the sky scraper.
Their feet hung over the edge, the cartons between them. They threw each egg in a different direction, several caused drivers to swerve dramatically, only three caused crashes though."This is amazing! They look like dust mites!" She exclaimed loudly.
"Yes, they do. Insignificant, small minded, self absorbed, self righteous dust mites." Joker said in a dark tone.
"And dust mites hate eggs, haha!" She shouted, throwing an egg as hard as she could. It managed to hit someone walking along the sidewalk in the head, causing them to fall down.
He watched her, unaware of how true she knew his statement to be.
"That is it, we are all out!" She dropped the empty carton into traffic below.
He followed her lead and they dropped the remaining cartons, one managed to cause another crash.
Margaret had shortened the gap between them, but Joker had not realised, until she rested her head on his upper arm. She was tired, unable to sleep the night before.
He was about to say something, when he felt her slide onto his lap, nearly falling off the building.
He quickly grabbed her and pulled her up onto the flat surface."What?" She asked suddenly.
"You fell asleep on me."
"Oh, I am sorry." She stood up, he followed.
"I think it's bed time." He said while stretching his back.
Once home, they went straight to sleep, and in the morning, it was the same as every other. That night though, Joker did not return, which happened sometimes.
At around eight o'clock, Margaret turned on the TV and sat down, she was shocked at what she heard.
"After over four months of Joker being free, Batman has caught and trapped him, leaving the GPD to arrest and incarcerate him. More tonight at ten."
Margaret turned off the TV, walked over to the cupboard, found one of Joker's knives and sat back on the couch.
-Two months later.
"I'm back Lollipop!" Joker yelled.
"Oh wonderful, we just heard the good news on the television, they were quick this time." Margaret was slightly yelling, sitting by the microwave, piles of chocolate bar wrappers on the ground around her.
"Come gimme a look at you, I missed my Lollipop!"
Margaret stood and turned around, which made Joker pause and stare.
"What happened to you?" He walked up to her and held her face."What is wrong?"
"Your face...your mouth?"
Margaret had a slit on either side of her mouth. Both about two inches long, and two centimetres from the corners of her lips.
"We could not smile when they took you. I felt sad, so I fixed myself." She smiled, the now healed cuts wrinkled. "I do not want to be sad, sadness is sanity, sadness is weakness."
Joker put his hands around the back of her head and pulled her into his chest, one hand stroking her hair gently.
"You look very pretty Lollipop."
