KARMA POV
"N-Nagisa...?" I stared at the small boy, but he never once looked up. He sat in the edge of a dark, empty alleyway, hands balled into fists around bright blue tufts of hair. He rocked himself back and forth, mumbling something to himself. He was covered in cuts, bruises and a lot of blood. His eyes were as wide as baseballs, florescent irises dulling with each passing moment, as if he's losing himself.
"Nagisa!" I ran toward the boy, kneeling down next to him and grabbing him loosely by the shoulders. He flinched but still didn't look at me. Damn... He looks like he's been through some things....
"Nagisa... do you... recognize me..?" I felt my stomach tighten as I choked out those words. Nagisa's gaze never faltered from the ground behind me as he blatantly said, "Karma Akabane."
That's how I knew something was really wrong. His tone was monotone and if there's one thing I know about Nagisa, it's that he NEVER speaks to someone without looking them in the eye.
I stared at him, my heart feeling... sad. I'm not used to that feeling...
I lightly held Nagisa's chin as I made him look up at me. He still stared with the terrified yet dying eyes of a young teen who's been through things that no one should.
"Nagisa," I started. "Where... did these wounds come from? Was.... was it her..? It was her wasn't it?!" I felt anger burning in my heart, though I tried to suppress it. I didn't wanna scare Nagisa away. He's like a small deer fawn, and I'm the researcher, not wanting to effect the animal's life.
Then, for the first time, Nagisa's eyes showed emotion as he looked up to me, crying.
"K-Karma.... i-is it... is it really..?" I nodded softly, giving up on getting any answers from the broken boy.
"Yes Nagisa. It's really me." And with that, Nagisa hugged me tight, although flinching in pain. He sobbed into my shirt as I stared in disbelief. Nagisa never hugged anyone, and especially not me. Not that he didn't like me, we just both agreed it would be awkward. But this felt... natural... Not awkward at all...
I softly hugged back, stroking Nagisa's soft blue hair as he cried on into my shirt. After awhile, Nagisa had stopped crying and I noticed, he looked absolutely exhausted. I eyed the petite boy as he sat on the ground. I drowned into my thoughts, but was quickly pulled out by Nagisa's sweet voice, although it was hoarse due to all the crying.
"I-I'm sorry, Karma..." I shot a glance at Nagisa as his gaze stayed on the ground. I'm still not used to him not looking at me.
"Why are you sorry? You did nothing wrong."
"But... I made you worry... when we just disappeared... like that..." I looked at his face once more, and it seemed as if he hadn't slept in months. I walked over to the bluenette before picking him up bridal style.
"We'll worry about that later. But right now, I'm taking you back to my place to sleep, you look exhausted," he looked away.
"I-I don't want to be a burde-" "You're not being a burden, Nagisa." He nodded weakly as i started walking back to my house.
