My mom burst into the room. Her hair was frazzled, and and she was in her silk night gown.
"What's going on?" she asked.
Kalyn shot shot up. "I don't wanna go to the casino!" she looked around, then sighed in relief. "Just a dream." she wiped away the saliva dribbling down her face.
I slowly turned around still shocked. My mother gasped. She looked terrified, and I could tell she had stopped breathing.
"Dude what happened to your face?" Kayln's eyes widened. "You look pretty."
I whipped back around to see my reflection. My appearence practically changed over night.
My usually short brown hair was now a golden brown and had grown past my waist.
My eyes were now hazel with flecks of green. I touched my face incredulous. My skin was flawless. I looked like I've been photoshopped!
"I turned around just in time to see my mom backing out of the room. "I know you know something. Mom what's going on?"
She walked over to my bed and sat down. I sat with her."I'd like to start by saying tha no matter what I love you as if you were my own." she put her hand over mine.
As if I were her own? What is she talking about? "Andy I am not your mother." I snatched my hand away from hers. "What do you mean?" I was confused. "Have you been drinking?" I questioned her. I got up and looked around the room. I searched under my bed, and in my closet.
"Andy what are you looking for?" my mom asked.
"Hidden cameras."
"I am telling the truth." she insisted.
"No you're not. You took care of me for sixteen years. If you are not my mother than who are you?" I snapped.
I was trying to avoid realization. The tiniest part of me knew it was true.
"Do you remember that story I used to tell you when you were little?" she asked.
"Which one?" I answered a question with a question.
"The one about Aphrodite and Hades." she answered.
I thought hard. I hadn't heard that story in years.
"You mean when they fell in love and Aphrodite broke his heart. Then she had a baby and sent her down to earth with a demigod named Sophia." I recalled the story outloud.
"Exactly."
"What does that have to do with us?" at this point confused was an understatement.
"Andy you are that baby." I sank to the floor.
You can't be serious. Tell me you're joking." I put my head in my hands. This can't be happening.
That story is a myth. This is reality.
"I'm afraid not." she said.
I got up and started pacing.
"If I'm the baby that makes you Sophia?" I asked.
"Yes deary." I kept pacing.
Somehow I knew she was telling the truth. It was like for years I was trying to solve a puzzle, and now it was completed.

"Mommy you really believe I'm special?" I'd ask her that everytime she read me a story about a hero or god. "More special than you'd ever know." She'd always answer.
"Even more special than Hercules?" that night she read the story of Hercules. I was fascinated by his strength.
"Even more special than Hercules, one day you'll see." she answer. She kissed my cheek. "I love you to Pluto and back."
"You too mommy."

I was six when I creeped into my mom's room. I thought I heard voices. "Mommy who are you talking to?" I rubbed my sleepy eyes and walked in.
She was talking to a strange looking man. He had shoes with wings, and he was wearing what looked like a toga.
My mom took me into the hallway. "Go back to bed honey." The next day she assured me it was a dream.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey mom sometimes I have this weird dream." I told her this when I was ten. "What is it about?" my mom asked. "I'm a baby and I'm being held by this very pretty woman with golden hair. She handed me too you, and we fell out of the sky." I looked at her.
"That is a weird dream. Would you like some lemonade?" she changed the subject.

I am the daughter of Hades. I am the daughter of Aphrodite. I replayed those two sentences in my head.
I can't even explain it to myself. One piece of the puzzle didn't add up though. " I thought that I took a tonic to take away my power. Isn't beauty a power? And why is my name Andy? I thought the baby's name was Colista."
"The night before your party Hermes sent me another tonic. This tonic unbinded your powers. I slipped it in one of your drinks last night." she admitted. "Your mother named you Colista, meaning "very beautiful". I decided to call you Andy so you would fit in with the other mortals better."she answered my questions.
"But why unleash my power now, and not before?"
"Just like in the story Aphrodite is ashamed. She thinks that if you pass your coming of age test all of the other Olympians will accept you."
"What is that?"
"All demigods take the test when they turn sixteen. Passing this test interprets whether you are a Hero or a warrior. All of the heros are able to go to Olympus and do Zeus's bidding while the warriors join demigod armies and defeat evil." Kayln chimed in.
I looked at her, astonished that she knew so much.
"You're in on this?!" I shrieked.
"Kayln is a mermaid and your protector." Sophia answered for her.
"Since when are mermaids protectors?" I asked.
"Since satyrs got to lazy for the job." Kayln folded her arms. "Curse Rick Riordan--he got that part all wrong."
Sophia rolled her eyes "Back to the subject at hand, since you are a full goddess, never the less one of the big three, your tasks will be much harder than that of a normal demigod." she concluded.
"Great." I banged my head on the wall.
This cannot be happening. I pinched myself. Nope not dreaming.
"I take it you need some time alone to digest this." Sophia got up and walked out the door. "Come along Kayln." Kayln followed her out.
She gently closed the door behind her. Alone at last. I got up and layed down on my bed.
I buried my head in my pillow. "Do not be afraid dear child." the voice of a woman appeared behind me.
I nearly jumped out of my skin. I picked up an umbrella ready to bash anyone in the head.
"Who.. who's there?" I raised the umbrella like an expert baseball player.
"Do you not recongnize your own mother?"
