------------ Chapter 2 -------------

Safely back at her shop Alicia was on her laptop downloading the new photos to her website. She had only been out for half an hour. While she still had time she decided to work on her computer before she had to reopen up shop. She also put the displays back up near the windows, where earlier she had taken photos of Zena.

With the all of that done, Alicia headed to her apartment above her store. She walked up the stairs and opened the door. She still had some time left she decided to grab a small glass of wine. Since she was her own boss, it wasn’t like she was going to get in trouble with drinking on the job and it was only one glass. She headed to her half kitchen, half living room and went to the top cabinet to grab one of her wine glasses. As much as she loved her job she wished her apartment was a bit bigger. She looked about and was a bit saddened. Her apartment was pitiful. The walls were plain and her cabinets were empty except for one bowl, a few plates and 2 wine glasses. She was alone. She didn’t have anyone special to share her life with. She just had her. She also had her friends too, but that didn’t cure the cold shoulder at night. She shook her head; all that matters was that she had her own dress shop like she always wanted. She didn’t need a man slowing her down or trying to make decisions for her. She finished her glass of wine and headed back downstairs.

It was the end of the day and Alicia started closing up shop. Zena called earlier and told her that they wouldn’t be returning to work because their PR agent had something for them to do. That was fine with her. She didn’t mind working alone sometimes. Besides it was a slow night.

She was putting the mannequins from the window away in the changing room, when she heard a tap near the windows. She looked up and didn’t see anything. She went to turn around and heard it again. She looked down and saw a black crow tapping the window. “What? That is weird.” She said to herself. The bird hopped to the front door and waited for her to open it. Alicia walked over to it and opened it with the bell ringing. The bird spread its wings and walked forward to swoop in. “What are you doing here little bird? This is so weird.” As if it understood her the bird looked up at her. “Oh, what’s that little bird? What do you have there?” In its mouth was a piece of paper. Alicia bent down and opened up her hand to it. The bird walked forward and placed the paper into her hand. “What on earth could this be?” She stood up, unrolled it and read it.

We require a dress for our ball. Please make one. Preferably black. The rest is up to you. Be finish in 3 days. –V

She looked down when she was done reading it. “Who is V little bird? Why one of my dresses? Surely there are better designers in New York City.” The bird just squawked at her. “Well I am honored any ways. I wonder who it’s for. I only have three days. Well I will start first thing in the morning.” She paused for moment thinking. Then the black bird squawked again. “Did you plan on staying the night little bird?” the bird squawked at her again and walked towards her legs. Alicia bent down and picked up the bird. “Well if you are, better go to bed now and get a good night’s rest. With bird in hand she turned the lights off in the room and headed back upstairs to her apartment.
