----------- Chapter One -----------

Just Out of college and Alicia was able to open her own dress store in New York City within 5 months. Of course now she owes her uncle a lot of money. The big apple was just the place she was looking for to start her own line of dresses. The shop had two floors. The first floor was where her shop was. The second was her apartment. From the street you could see 2 big windows for the shop and the second floor had a few small windows.  The building was made of bricks.

Alicia was ready for the day to be over. Her shop had opened at 9:00 in the morning. She tries to open it at 9 every morning but some days she is too exhausted to get out of bed. It was late afternoon and Alicia was ready for lunch break, but not until the photo shoot was done. Her dark brown hair was pulled back with a headband. Her purple corset was sleeve less and zipped up in the back. She had on her favorite pair of black dress pants. All design by her.

"Hey, Alicia! Where do you want me?" She looked up to see who called her. It was Zena, one of the Zombie Girlz models. She had black raven hair. She was slender like her, but not anorexic like most models these days. Alicia has known Zena since college. Zena and two other girls made a trio called The Zombie Girlz. They were models with tattoos and piercings. She loved them for their edginess. They weren’t your typical models. Their style matched her fashion style.

Alicia snapped out of her thoughts and focused on Zena. "Near the front windows. On top the display area." Alicia was taking photos of the Girlz in her dress shop. Zena was wearing her new dress, which was the focus of her new dress line. Her dresses fit them perfectly. Alicia’s style was elegant but morbid. With the new dress Zena looked stunning. The dress was all white with red spots going down the length of the dress. It was made to look like blood splatter.

"This dress is so awesome." Zena complemented while looking down at the dress. “You look awesome." Alicia replied back. She blushed and looked out the window.

Alicia continued taking pictures for another 15 minutes. “Ok its 1:00. Time for lunch. I’m starving. I was thinking pizza. Do you want to come with Zena?” Alicia put the Canon down on the countertop and grabs her purse from underneath the register counter.

“I would love too, but I can’t I have to meet up with Shelby at 2 for a meeting with our agent.” Zena was in the fitting rooms when she answered and Alicia was waiting for her to come out to continue talking to Zena. “We will be down near the Times Square if you need us.” Zena said through the white doors. Alicia has only been to certain places in The Big Apple and having Zena with her made her feel safer walking around. Besides, Alicia was a big girl now, she can handle herself. Its daylight nothing will bother her. She thought to herself

“Ok then I’ll text you if I need anything. I’m just going to the corner pizza shop anyway. No big deal. It’s not like last time at Subway.” Last time they were together they had gone to Subway for lunch. However, it was a small restaurant. It was also packed to the T. Alicia had been on a verge of a panic attack, she doesn’t like tight small rooms. Zena and the Girlz had to get Alicia out. It was shoulder to shoulder traffic and someone bumped into her. She felt ice cold when that stranger bumped her. Alicia collapsed and started to cry. It was very embarrassing but Alicia pulled through with the help of her friends and they were able to get her out and return to Shelby’s car.

“You ok dear?” Zena asked. She was right in front of Alicia. She didn’t even realize she had come out of the fitting rooms. “I can tell the Girlz to not wait for me?”

“No, I’ll be ok. Don’t worry about me.” Alicia replied with a smile. “You go ahead to your meeting and make those big bucks they pay you.” Alicia grabs her black coat and put it on. I will be back in an hour. Don’t worry about rushing back here I can take care of myself. I’m a big girl.” Alicia smiled at Zena. It looked like she won. Zena nodded and reminded Alicia to text her if she need her. Together they walked out the shop but headed in different directions, Alicia right and Zena left. They waved goodbye and Alicia headed to lunch.

On her way to the pizza shop she counted all the things that she needed to do back at her shop. She wasn’t really paying attention to anything around her. She had only been walking for 5 minutes when a bird above her squawked and landed on a street sign in front of her. It had been following her since Zena left her side. It squawked again and this time Alicia noticed it. “Oh what a weird crow.” She said looking up at it. It squawked at her again and flew away. “Ok well nice talking to you too. Weird bird.” She stopped walking and waited for traffic to go by. Then she crossed the street and right in front of her was the pizza shop. She walked in and could smell the delicious scent of tomato sauce and the aroma of cheese melting.

“Hello Alicia. The usual?” a male asked in a strong Italian accent.

“Hello Marcus. Yes a slice of pepperoni please.” She continued walking towards the front and went over to an open table to sit at. She took her black coat off and placed her purse on the table. She immediately looked up to see Marcus coming with her order along with a medium sprite. He knew her to well, but was grateful for it. For a day like today she was starving.

“Busy day? He asked as he set the pizza on the table.

“Yea I had a photo shoot with Zena this afternoon. I skipped breakfast but I couldn’t skip lunch. Besides if I missed lunch I couldn’t get to eat your delicious pizza.” Alicia said with a smile. Marcus sat down in front of her. “How’s your wife?” Alicia asked after taking a bite and swallowing it. It was rude to talk with food in your mouth anyways.

“She’s great. We are expecting another one.” He said with a bright smile.

“Oh how wonderful. That’s great. How many is that now 4?” He laughed after she said that.

“Yea four. Well my papa’s pizza shop shall always be in the family and it will help raise one too.” He was silent for a while and Alicia continued eating her food. Then Alicia heard more people coming.

“Looks like you have some customers coming.” He looked behind him and didn’t see anybody but instead of saying something he waited. And to no surprise Alicia was right a couple had come in from around the corner.

“I still wonder how your hearing is so good.” Marcus asked.

“Genetics I guess.” Alicia answered finishing up her soda. She put her coat back on and grabs her purse to take out 5 dollars. She went to hand it to Marcus but he denied it.

“Keep it. I enjoy your company and my wife loves your dresses. She always tells me to thank you for making our wedding dress any time I see you.”

“Well like always I’m glad she liked it. At least take it for a tip.” After a couple seconds he said fine and Alicia was glad. Usually he would keep fighting her and insist she kept it for making more beautiful dresses.  Seems like today was going great.  She waved goodbye and headed back to her shop.

On her way to her shop she counted all the things that she needed to do. She wasn’t really paying attention to anything around her. She had only been walking for 5 minutes when a bird above her squawked and landed on a street sign in front of her. This time she saw it and was curious. “Well hello there. Are you the same one from before?” how weird it would be if it was. It looked like a normal crow. It squawked at her and stared at her. This time she stopped to look at it. “Are you following me?” she giggled when she asked that. It spread its wings and slowly flew towards her. She was a bit scared but her body told her to stay still. She lifted up her arm and the black bird landed on it. “Hello, you’re a pretty bird.” She said. She smiled like she found a new friend. “I’m afraid I don’t have any food for you. If you are ever near my shop I’ll be sure to put some bird food out for you ok?” this was the strangest encounter she has ever had. However she was always good with birds. She didn’t know why but she trusted her gut. The bird lifted off and flew away. “Bye.” She said waving at it. Luckily she was alone on the side walk but cars were passing her and she wasn’t sure if they saw what happened. Embarrassed she continued walking towards her shop.
