Chapter 2: Maheswaran

June and Chloe ended up passing out after the sudden glowing appearance, June's set alarm blared from her phone at 8:30, waking the two up with a start.
"Holy crap why did you set it to that one?!" June asked as the siren played from her speaker.
"You set that alarm, June." Chloe added as she yawned.
"Oh yeah, it's time to get ready to go." June got up and pulled a pair of jean shorts along with a t-shirt. Meanwhile Chloe pulled out her change of khaki shorts and a long-sleeved shirt to cover up her arms.
"You can use the bathroom if you want." June offered before realizing that her friend was already taking off her shirt. "It's okay." She said as she pulled her shirt over her head.

The two both walked downstairs into the kitchen after getting ready, Kyle smirking at the two when they arrived.
"Hows it going sweetie?" He said in a sarcastic tone.
"Just fine babe." June gave his sarcasm back as she pulled out two mugs for her and her guest.
"Man, I knew you loved each other, but not in that way." Chloe laughed.
"You need sugar?" June asked as she scooped sugar into the mug.
"No, I'm good." She replied as she watched June pour a ton of sugar into the cup.

Suddenly, loud footsteps were heard running down the stairs.
"Are y'all ready for the museum, cause' I know I am!" Abby exclaimed.
"Wow, didn't know you were a morning person." Kyle added.
"Nah, Faith just gave me some really good coffee." She answered.
"Okay..." Kyle slowly walked to the living room.
Abby grabbed her cup of coffee and pulled out her phone as she sat down.
"So who's coming with us, Abby?" June pondered.
"Oh, just Mya and Jodie." She answered, not even looking up from her phone.
"Who's that?" Chloe whispered into June's ear.
"The two who went with us last night." She whispered back.
"Oh."

The three left the apartment and made their way into the subway station, boarding the second train they saw. Soon making it into one of the three parts of New Empire City, the central one. They passed by Mya and Jodie's homes and picked them up as they made it to the museum. Upon arriving, there was a long line to enter the half that holds the new exhibit.
June looked up at the tall building, towering 7 stories, it was a standout from the huge park nearby.
They soon made it to the ticket booth, Abby and Mya used their student ID to get both them and the two guests, Jodie paid for herself.

They walked in, gathering around the first bench they saw.
"We meet up here at 5:00, okay?" Mya stated.
"Got it!" Chloe exclaimed, something seemed to be making her really excited. So excited that she dragged June to the information desk as soon as the other three trailed off.
"Okay, we ask one of the ladies if she can tell us where Ms. Maheswaran is, then we see if we can talk to her." Chloe whispered to June.
"Chloe, were asking a woman for information, not robbing a bank." June joked.

Chloe was about to stand up and ask the lady at the desk when she spotted Ms. Maheswaran just finishing a tour.
"June, there she is!" She excitedly squealed.
"Okay, lets go!" The two ran up to her as she waved off the tour crowd.

"Excuse me, ma'am." June said to her.
"Yes?" She seemed to be a bit suprised at the sudden approach, but was kind about it.
"There was a rumor, that you had a license from Delmarva?" June hoped she wouldnt walk away.
Ms.  Maheswaran looked down to June, making eye contact with her, she seemed freaked out.
"Y-yes, what about it."
"We would like to ask you about it." June was hoping for a yes.
"Sure, but not out here." The woman gestured the two girls to follow.

Ms. Maheswaran led the two into am empty office back in the museum, sat down at the desk, and offered the two seats in front of her to the girls.

"So, what do you want to know?" She asked nervously.
"Where did you live in Delmarva?" Chloe asked.
"I lived in a town called Beach City, in the suburburban part though." She answered.
"Did you know a kid, with a stone embedded in his skin?" June asked for Chloe.
"Y-yes," she seemed to grow sadder by the question, "If you mean Steven, we were best friends.. I trained for swordfighting with one of his guardians.." she had tears growing in her eyes.
"What happened to him?" Chloe added.
"I-I dont know, he disappeared after the entire State was issued to evacuate, he said he had to fight for what be believed in, and that was the earth." She had tears running down her face at this point, obviously these two were close.
"Who were the people he fought with?" June asked, curiously.

"Wait, you do you guys want to know?! Youre kids! How do you know about the gems?" 
Ms. Maheswaran started to freak out at the questions being asked.
"Well uh, I-" June couldn't finish her sentence, Chloe lifted her sleeve, revealing the green gem beneath. Ms Maheswaran's eyes grew wide.
"You two, are gems?!" She exclaimed.
"I guess, we don't know much about it, though." Chloe answered.
"Thats amazing!" She exclaimed. "Steven wouldve been so happy to see this!"
"What was Steven like? Did he have powers?" June asked.
"He was kind and brave, he had healing powers, and was able to summon a shield for defense!" She seemed super excited.

After two hours of talking with Ms. Maheswaran, she finally led the two back to the museum, the two girls were both beaming with excitement from all the new stuff they had learned.

"Hey wait, we never got you're name." Chloe told the woman.
"Connie Maheswaran." She said confidently.

The two went back to the meeting bench, Abby, Mya, and Jodie all waited patiently for the June and Chloe's return.

"So what'd you guys go see?" Abby seemed a bit tired.
"We went and talked to Connie!" Chloe beamed.
"Who's Connie?" Jodie added
"Ms. Maheswaran." June confirmed.
"Wait, you actually talked to her?!" Abby seemed surprised.
"Yeah! She knew all about Delmarva!" Chloe squealed.
"Glad y'all had a good time." Abby concluded
"We should go get food." June added after a moment.
"Good idea." Mya agreed.

The five decided to stay on the main area and stopped by a coffee and donut shop, upon the request of Abby and Jodie. They all ate and retreated back to June and Abby's apartment.

The five played video games before Mya and Jodie went into Abby's room. June and Chloe both went back to June's room.

"So, Steven was the kid who had the other gem." Chloe was thinking out loud purposely.

"Yeah, but the crystal gems were all gems.So that makes like a dozen of us." June added
"More than a dozen! Connie talked about the tons of gems bubbled in the burning room!" Chloe was so excited to talk about it, just as excited as June has been.
"I really wish we could see Delmarva for ourselves." June sighed as she fell backwards onto the air mattress.
"Maybe someday." Chloe said as she lay down next to June.

"I hope."

The two friends quietly dozed off next to each other, the light coming through the window faded as the night came upon them.

"Shhhh, keep quiet." A different voice called.
June stood in a dark room, dimly lit by a flickering light.
She stood before a tall, white figure, she could make out a white lump on her forehead.

Or was it a gem?

"No! Wait! Stop!" The woman was dragged off by something holding her hands behind her back.

June woke up again, the room wasn't lit by any gem or TV, she stared down at the girl sleeping peacefully next to her. Snoring softly. June smilied as she looked up at the clock

3:27 a.m.

Something felt familiar about this situation.

June dozed off again.

June woke up to the sound of Chloe freaking out,  again.
"June! Wake up!" She shook the half-asleep girl.
When she opened her eyes, it wasn't dark at all, her friend wasnt freaking out either, she actually looked excited.
"Whats going on?" June asked in a groggy tone, she felt like she was losing sleep to all of these dreams.
"I figured it out!" Chloe squealed excitedly.
"Oh god, what is it?" June wasn't mad at Chloe, but more mad at the clock reading 8:48.
"We're not gems! Were half gem half human!" She claimed, even though June had never thought about it, she realized they never knew what they were.
"So, like a hybrid?" She put the pieces together.
"Yeah! This kid in my dream told me!" She had a wierd look in her eyes.
"So now we're trusting dreams?" June wasnt amused by this. Not at all.
"He claimed to be Steven, he did fit Connie's description."
"Why didnt you ask where he was?" June remembered how Connie had been about him.
"He just screamed help, he saw me. I had a skirt on? But anyway, he saw the gem and asked if i was a hybrid."
"Did you say yes?"
"Yeah!"

"He said I looked like a hybrid. He wanted us to help him." She concluded.
