I woke up the next morning nervous and excited all jumbled together. I hear Heather coming down the hallway to my room.
She opens the door and says loudly "Rise and Shine!" "Time to get up!"
I throw a pillow at her and miss.
"Shut up weirdo!" I say.
"Up, up, up! " Heather says."
I only get up for coffee!" I growled at her."
"It so happens I have fresh coffee in my hand just like you like it." "So that's why you need to get Up!" Heather says in a sing song voice.
Feeling like I can't win this fight with staying in bed all day I need to wake up and focus. So many questions I need answers too. How does dad expect us to do whatever it is he does without much explanation. A letter, journal and a car is not much to go on.
"Ok ok I will get up." I swing my legs over the side of my bed and slowly get up. I make my way over to my sister and she hands me my coffee. I take a big long wiff of it and a few sips letting it slide down my throat.
"Ahhh that tastes so good". I say.l closing my eyes.
"Ok weirdo."she says making a face.
We both head into the kitchen.
"What should we do about breakfast? " Heather asks.
"We could eat here but there will be and make a big mess or we could eat somewhere else in town." I say.
"Alright let's head to IHOP!" Heather says.
"Um no offense but that's dog food." "Let's go have some real food at Lucy's diner." I say.
We quickly get dressed and head out the door making sure to lock everything up. I started up the car and turned up the radio. We headed into town and I parked in front of Lucy's diner. We walked in and I could have sworn people were staring at us. I looked over at heather and then down at my clothes.
I was wearing dark blue jeans with a green tank top with a short sleeved button up white shirt and laced up boots and my favorite leather jacket. Heather was wearing white jeans and tank top and her leather jacket as well. We found a booth and sat down.
Lucy herself came over to us. She smiled and said "Hey girls, how are you?" Lucy says cheerfully.
Hey Lucy, good to see you." I said.
We ordered coffee and pancakes with a side of bacon.
"Say hi to Chris for us!" Heather says.
"Will do honey!"Lucy says and heads to the kitchen. 15 minutes later or breakfast comes out. I brought in Dad 's journal to find out anymore information about where we are suppose to head first. I keep staring at the pages until I saw something catch my eye in the corner of one of the pages.
"Hey heather, look at this." I flipped the journal around. I look up to see her with a mouth full of pancakes. She tries to chew and swallow fast so she could speak but that didn't work.
"There is some address here." Above the address it has our initials and today's date". "That's so weird." "How is it that dad would write this down with our initials and this exact date". Unless....????
"Unless what?? heather says.
"Unless he knew he was about to die." "Maybe he was on a hunt and knew he wasn't going to make it back." "Apparently now he wants us to take over where he left off."
"There is some newspaper clipping of some " Woman in White" seen on a bridge in Toledo, OH." "I think that's where he wants us to go." We finish our breakfast and pay for it. Before we head out the door we head up to the counter to find Lucy to say goodbye.
She spots us and walks over. "Alright girls you be safe on your travels." "You need anything at all you call me." Lucy says.
"How did you know we were going somewhere." Heather asks.
" Well honey your father told me before he passed".
"You're killing me here Lucy. Heather says.
"Did our dad tell everyone but us about this? I ask.
"You will figure it all out in due time"."Take care of each other." She says hugging us.
"We will." I say.
We waved as we headed out the door. As we got in the car, Heather pulls out the GPS and plugs it in. Puts in the address of our destination. We pull out if the parking lot and head out on our way.
