A/N So, I need advice. I don't know if what I'm doing is right so its weird.. and anyway I HAVE 3 READS! ...well.. one of them is me.. but who cares still other people are reading this! well on to the story. BTW: As I have said before this is my fist story and I'm still getting the hang of it and I'm a really slow typer, so bear with me. xxKay"I know" I say How could I not know? I don't know many brunette parents who have kids with red hair. I've known since I was little that I was different. I grew up in school not having any friends and mostly playing by myself.
" You know?" My mother asked.
"Of course I know, it's obvious." I say. I excuse myself from the table and walk into the kitchen. Reaching for dishwasher handle, I stick my plate on the top rack. My mind races. Why would the tell me now? It has been seventeen years. Did they not trust me enough or think I could handle it? Did they think I would try to find my real parents? Even when I was small, I tried to imagine what they would look like. I knew even then. I knew my parents were not my parents.
"Sweetheart, I know what this sounds like but it's not like that" my father says. He sighs as he continues, "Like your mother said, we didn't adopt you. We found you on our doorstep in a basket only about 6 months old. You had bright red hair and glowing blue eyes. You had a note and a locket with you. We tried to open the beautiful locket but it was jammed closed."
After running up the stairs to get my purse and slip my locket on, I leave the house. I skip down the front porch stairs and start to walk down the sidewalk, leaving my house behind. I bring my fingers to my cheek. Wet. I guess I really do care. Maybe I should try to find them. How hard could it really be? I could have a DNA test and try to find them. I don't know their name, or even if they are still alive. This is infuriating. How am I supposed to find them if I don't know where or who they are!
I think I should go to Callie's coffee shop. Its only about a block away. Today is a beautiful day, the sky is bight blue and the New York birds are chirping. The blooming flowers are pretty purples and blues, and the grass is green. I walk into the little coffee shop, the intense smell of coffee hits my nose. Now my mouth is watering! There's a guy sitting at the bar, he looks really upset. I wonder if he's as upset as me. I sit next to him, even though there are multiple seats that I could have sat in.
He turns to look at me and smiles ''Hello Darla" he says. My eyes bug.
''How do you know my name?!'' I ask a little scared at the moment.
''Oh! this must be our first encounter for you.'' he says grinning. Well duh its our first encounter, I have never met him before. he doesn't say anything more so I drop the subject.
His eyes are a beautiful green that almost look blue. His hair is chocolate brown and is flopped down to one side of his face. He is very handsome. The waitress comes out and puts a bowl and a plate in front of him. The bowl is full of custard? Gross! I have always hated custard. Well actually I have never had it. I guess I can't knock it till I try it. The plate has fish fingers on it. He has some weird taste buds.
"Hey is that any good?" I ask. He scoops up a bunch of custard on a fish stick, stuffs it in his mouth and stares at me. He looks like a cute little chipmunk. He bobs his head up and down flopping his hair with it. The waitress comes back to take my order. "I'll have what he has, it looks and sounds gross but I want to try it." she nods and walks away. After she walks away to see the chipmunk still staring at me.
"You're really going to try it?" he says after swallowing it. "Nobody ever tries this. Everybody says its gross." He looks back at his plate. The waitress comes back with my food. I give her a smile and a small thank you and then look down at my custard. With a deep breath I pick up one of the fish sticks and dip it in the custard. Here we go, I look over to chipmunk and he looks at me with a very hopeful face. I look back at the custard covered fish stick and take a bight. Its not half bad! I chew and look over at him he's staring at me for a response.
"Its good!" I say to him and he smiles. He has a bit of custard on his face. "You have a bit," I say motioning towards is left cheek. He blushes like a rose and grabs a napkin off the table.
"I'm The Doctor." he says putting down the custardy napkin and offering me his hand.
I take his hand and shake it. ''Hello Doctor.'' I say and He gives me a questioning look. "what?'' I ask
"You're not going to ask something like doctor who? People usually do, and I don't blame them. I do have a strange name." he asks
"No I trust you, If you say that's what you want to be called, then that's what I will call you.'' I respond smiling at him. He doesn't say anything more. He just continues to eat his fish fingers and custard while occasionally staring at me. He definitely is weird, but I like weird. We finish our food, put the money on the table, and head for the door. Stepping outside we hear a bloodcurdling scream. The Doctor starts sprinting in the direction it came from.
I somehow feel the need to follow him. I sprint to catch up to him, man I need to workout. Hah nah. He turns down a dark alleyway and stops. it should be coming from here! But there is nobody here. We hear the scream again. this time its coming from deeper in the alleyway. the doctor takes something out of his tweed jacket pocket and flashes the walls with it. It looks like a mechanical flash light. He turns around and almost screams.
''No no no no no no no. Why are you still here? you could be getting yourself into danger!'' He yell-whispers while spinning in circles.
''I like danger'' I respond confidently. he turns back to look at me. He takes a big breath and grunts.
''Of course you do'' he sighs ''they all do.''
A blue light shines around us. I close my eyes its so bright. I open them again and we're somewhere else. The Doctor shuffles over to me and takes my hand. He bends down to me and whispers into my ear.
''You like danger right?'' I nod '' Well then. This is going to be fun!''
