Lindsey picked up his phone and Stevie knew exactly who it was by the tone of his voice. He walked out of the room a moment, knowing the woman in bed wouldn't want to witness the show he was putting on. It turned her stomach the way his voice would get higher, almost sing-song, like he were speaking to a child. A few minutes later, he returned and started pulling on his clothes.
"Another emergency?" she asked, pulling the covers up over her bare chest.
"Of course. It's always dramatic with her. She says Stella is 'really sick' yet only has the sniffles. It's probably allergies" he says, his voice full of irritation.
"You can never tell. Better safe than sorry" Stevie says, giving him a weak smile.
"God, I love you. You're perfect."
"No, that's you."
"I'm sorry to cut this short. I wish I didn't have to go but if I don't, you know what happens"
"I do. It's okay, really."
"No, it isn't."
"Obviously, I don't want to give you back but that's the way it goes."
"I will come back as soon as I can. She was going to take the girls out to some sort of horse thing tomorrow. I'm sure she assumes I will be in the studio again."
"Even with Stella sick?"
"Always"
"Hm" Stevie says.
"You know how she is"
"Yeah"
"Anyway, maybe I can be back here around noon. I will come up with something"
"Alright, baby"
"Maybe I can pack us a little picnic and we can sit outside. I hate not being able to take you out."
"It doesn't bother me. As long as I'm with you, I'm alright"
"I love you. Get some sleep."
"I love you too. I will try" He kisses her lips ever so softly and puts his shoes back on. "Hurry back"
"You bet" She hears his boots on the stairs then the door shutting behind him and she sighs. She turns the tv on, laying back against the pillows. She hated being alone so soon. It felt like he just got there. She sunk down under the covers and turned to face the pillow Lindsey was laying on. It smelled of him, sweat and cologne. It drove her wild as she clutched it to her chest. Her breathing slowed and she was able to drift to sleep, imagining herself laying in his arms as she had so many nights before.

A knock on the door, woke Stevie from a dead sleep. She looked at the clock. It was barely 9 in the morning. She groaned as the knocking persisted. "I'm coming" she says to herself, knowing her uninvited guest cannot hear her. She pulls on a pair of leggings and a top, clipping her messy hair up out of her face. She races down the stairs, checking her appearance in the mirror briefly before opening the door.
"Jenna" she says. "What brings you here?"
"I, uh, I thought you said to come by Sunday so you could give me a run down of the house and stuff"
"Honey, no. Next Sunday"
The young girl blushed "Oh my gosh, how embarrassing! I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you."
"No, you're fine. Come on in" She walked the petite blonde with big blue eyes into the kitchen. "Let me start a pot of coffee, I will get ready really fast then we can chat"
