Chapter Thirty Nine

Luke’s  POV

“You don’t need to worry anymore, Mrs. Suarez, your husband’s health is now stable. He can leave the hospital tomorrow morning.” Masayang balita ko sa matandang babaeng nasa harapan ko.

Malawak itong ngumiti sabay yuko ng kaunti. “Nako, maraming salamat po, dok! Utang po namin sainyo ang buhay ng asawa ko.”

Mabilis naman akong umiling habang nakangiti. “You don’t need to say that Mrs. Suarez. It’s my job.”

“Kahit na po - - -“ naputol ang mga sasabihin pa sana ng matanda nang biglang bumukas ang pintuan ng aking opisina. Agad naman akong napaupo ng matuwid. Iniluwa nito ang isang babaeng may napakalakas na tinig.

“NANAY! Andito ka lang pala! Pinag alala mo ako, alam mo ba yun? Alam mo bang nilibot ko ang buong ospital para lang makita ka?! Nanay naman eh, andito ka lang pala. Pinagod mo pa ako..” napakamot ito sa ulo at umupo sa tabi ng matanda na ngayon ay nagulat yata sa inasta ng anak. Inayos nito ang kanyang magulong buhok at dahan dahan itong tumango sa akin. “so dok, kamusta na si tatay?” she said beaming.

…  and there … I was caught off guard.

Putangina.

How can a girl with that kind of action makes herself still beautiful? She’s shameless. She’s not showing any lady like action but .. she’s still looks like an angel.

Yes, I know. She’s really an angel with a bold attitude. I went to Snack Haus with her once right? Yung time kung saan kasama namin si Yori.

I have seen tons of beautiful women. Yung iba nga models pa eh. But none of them makes me speechless like this.

I guess that genuine smile of hers made me really caught off guard. It’s one of a kind.

One of a kind.

Napangiti ako ng mapakla when I remembered something. It’s a sudden flashback that I don’t want to remember anymore. It’s still killing me and I hate myself because of that.

“One of a kind.”

“huh?” I took her hands and placed it in my chest while still having an eye contact with her.

“You’re really one of a kind… Ayanna.”

I suddenly shook my head to erase that fucking thought.

It makes me angry whenever I remember that.

I trust her. I trust him. I trust them. But guess what they did to me in return, they betrayed me.

They fucking betrayed me.

But still, here I am playing angel all the way. Nagawa ko pa nga silang patawarin. Putangina nga naman.

Huminga ako ng malalim at ibinalik ang atensyon sa dalagang nag tanong. “well, he’s fine now and ready to leave for tomorrow.”

Agad naming lumaki ang kanyang singkit na mata and smiles from ear to ear. “TOTOO DOK?! Nako po, maraming salamat!” tumayo siya at naglakad papunta sa akin.

Nagulat ako ng kinuha niya ang aking kamay giving me a hand shake. “maraming maraming salamat po..”

I answered nothing in return but smile. I really did not expect that coming.

Binitawan nito ang aking kamay at naglakad naman siya papunta sa nanay niya and she gave her a hug. “nanay, ok na si tatay..” tumango tango naman ang matanda sa sinabi ng anak. “oo nga anak eh. Salamat sa iyo dahil nakatulong yung pera mo, alam mo ba? Kahit hindi mo sinasabi sa akin kung saan yun galing basta nagpapasalamat talaga ako.. huwag din nating kalimutan magpasalamat sa Diyos, anak ha? Dahil sinagot niya yung mga panalangin natin..”

I’m happy seeing the family of my patient like that. They are happy and thankful. I’m just new at this job but I know what I can do and what my limitations are. Mr. Suarez, my patient, is tough. I know he’s strong that’s why I had done the operation without fear because I know that he’s also fighting. And I’m glad, I did that very well. “You save another life, Luke.” I mentally said.

“oh siya, tama na ang drama at nakikita tayo ni Dok..” natatawang sabi ng matanda and then she broke the hug. “nahanap mo na ako anak, pupunta na ako sa kwarto ng iyong ama at baka gising na yun..” Mrs. Suarez continued.

She look at me for the last time and said “maraming salamat po talaga, doctor Ocampo, nawa’y pagpalain kayo ng Maykapal..”

I stand up and went in front of the door, while opening it, I said “you’re welcome Mrs. Suarez like what I’ve said, it’s my job..” and with that, she went outside my office with a big smile.

“maraming salamat po, dok.” Chabella said with her genuine smile.

Lalabas na sana siya nang bigla kong hinawakan ang kanyang braso, stopping her from her tracks. She looked at me with a confused look written in her face. “May sasabihin po ba kayo?”

“Stop saying me PO, I’m not that old. And yes, I have to tell you something, ask rather..”

“ano po yun? Ay este ano yun?”

I grin. And without having second thoughts, I ask her the question I want to ask her from the very first time she went inside my office..

“Can you join me for lunch? I won’t take no for an answer..”

I don’t know what to say anymore. HAHA I miss you, guys. I miss the characters. I miss writing. I miss everything.

So eto muna for now ha? Maybe, I’ll update this week again.. ;)
