Chapter Six

I took a deep breath before answering, trying to clear the shock and obvious disgust out of my voice from Sam's question. I guess it had been a relatively reasonable question, Christian and I didn't start arguing all the time until we hit high school, and everyone who knew Christian knew he grew into his looks during freshman year, everyone started noticing him then. It had infuriated me even more at the time, even my good friends would make sly comments about him that would leave a vile taste in my mouth.

To be fair though, we had been separated since we were seven years old; we had gone to different elementary and middle schools, it wasn't like we had been civil to each other in the years before then, it was just unfortunate timing, that's all.

But if you added that with the fact that back when we were all friends, I used to talk about marrying Christian, and how much I liked Christian, and all those other things little kids say that made their Mum's laugh. Yeah, I could see where Sam was coming from.

"Okay, I'm going to admit something, and trust me you are the only person I will ever in my life say this too, but Christian is an attractive guy, it's not hard to see. But I swear on my life that I have never had feelings for him, nor have I ever wanted to do anything with him. I hate him because he is the world's biggest arsehole, period."

"So the night you guys got married, you never..." Sam trailed off, a faint blush coming into his cheeks as he idly picked at his jumper sleeve.

A blush covered my cheeks as I realised what he was asking. "God Sammy I really don't want to get into this with you."

"So you have." He asked in all seriousness.

I hesitated for a moment before deciding to just be blunt. "The morning after we got married, I woke up naked in a bed next to him, though I don't remember it; it's probably safe to say yes, I have."

"And that's all."

I nodded. "That's all."

"So you don't have feelings for him?"

"No Sammy, I most certainly do not."

There was a pause then. "He's still going to hurt you though."

Before I had the chance to reply, to reassure him that I would make sure Christian didn't get a chance to hurt me, a loud angry voice interrupted.

"What the hell are you doing here?" the familiar voice belonged to my Dad.

Oh shit.

I looked away from Sam's now stunned face, and turned towards my Dad. He was dressed in one of his business suits with his briefcase held tightly in his hand, an expression of anger clearly written on his face.

"Hi Dad." I said timidly, now that it came the time to speak with him, I seemed to have lost all of my courage.

"I asked what you are doing here."

I cleared my throat and stood up to face him. "I actually came to see you."

"Yeah, is that why you were talking to Sam then?" The calmness in his voice didn't fool me.

"I was just clearing stuff up with him, I was going to ask him where you were, I wasn't sure if you would be here or at the office."

"Good thing I was just on my way there then wasn't it." There was a pause; I didn't really know what to say to that. "So, why did you want to see me?"

"I wanted to explain, I want you to understand the situation properly. I didn't enter it willingly, you have to know that." Father wasn't the type of person who would play the avoidance card like Sam had done; he knew exactly what I was talking about.
