Chapter Eleven

Christian didn't get back home until late afternoon; my nerves were frayed by that time.

I had a long conversation with Sadie about what was going on and what I should do - her response was to forget about it and just jump into bed with him, clearly unhelpful - but after that I had turned my phone off, by that time I had ignored nearly ten phone calls from acquaintances or unknown numbers and the ringing of my phone was starting to get to me.

When Christian finally walked in the door I was playing one of the racing games on his gaming console that I had discovered whilst trying to find more of his movie collection. I was not in any way or form a gaming person; I had found that out early when I used to play with Sam, but after playing for a couple of hours I think I had picked up a few skills.

"What did your Dad say?" I asked my eyes still glued to the screen, as I felt Christian sit down on the other end of the couch.

"He advised that it's probably best if we tell people the truth, we are married. We shouldn't go into any other details though, you know about it being a Vegas wedding and shit. People will find out soon when we go to get a divorce so there's no point in hiding it, especially when anyone with half a brain can just check the public records to see if it's true or not."

"So what we should broadcast our marriage now?"

He shook his head. "Not broadcast, but tell a few people and let the grapevine do the rest. There's no need to be over the top about it."

I scoffed. "Then you clearly don't know Sadie."

I could almost feel him roll his eyes. It was a few more moments before he got up and grabbed his laptop, going back to doing work; I looked over at him in confusion when my race ended.

"Isn't it Saturday, why are you still doing work?"

He shrugged. "It's not really working; I'm just checking my emails and going over notes for a couple meetings I have on Monday."

"Wow and Flynn called me a workaholic." I muttered as I turned my eyes back to the screen and began to choose my next race.

"Well there's nothing else I can do tonight so why not?"

I scoffed once more. "It's Saturday night, I'm sure there's something you can do. What do you usually do?"

"Go out, get drunk, bring girls back." He replied simply, this time it was my turn to roll my eyes. "It's not as if I can do that now my wife lives with me."

"Yeah we wouldn't want to end our marital bliss now would we?" I replied sarcastically.

"Well it might help out when we suddenly get divorced in a couple weeks."

"Yeah, and I suppose it wouldn't surprise many people that you couldn't stay in a monogamous relationship for long." I clicked a few more buttons and my next race began.

I felt him glaring at me. "I'll have you know that I am a very faithful person when I'm in relationships."

"Oh, and how many relationships have you actually been in?" I became very sceptical at his statement.

He thought for a moment. "Four."

I sighed. "Okay not including high school." I clarified.

"Carly." He replied with an almost huff.

"That was how many years ago now Christian?"

"Five or so."

"Exactly my point, no one would be surprised." I said with finality, effectively showing that I had won the argument, if you could even call it that.
