Tobias's POV

Shit. What have I done? I quickly get of the bed and grab the greyish remote attached to the hospital bed. I press the bright red button that says "NURSE" and I soon hear a voice.

"Hello, Ms. Prior, how may I help you?" The nurse says and in happy preppy tone. I hate it.

"Um, hi. I was just laying on Tris's hospital bed with her, and I think a wire must've been disconnected." I say, trying to even out my breaths. I'm in a panicky state at the moment, but I can't let it show.

"Did the machine that the wires would hooked up to make any noises?"

"Yes. Th-The machine made one short beep, then Tris passed out." I say, beginning to stutter.

"We'll send Dr. Johnson up right now. Just make sure she keeps breathing."

"Yes ma'am." I say and then press the "nurse" button again to stop the call. Just make sure she's still breathing. That means what I unhooked to kill her! What have I done? I'm a huge mess.

I rest my left pointer finger under her nose, making sure she keeps breathing and that her breaths are still on a constant rhythm.

Oh god. What have I done? I practically could have killed her! I mean, why else would they have said to make sure she keeps breathing?

My breaths get frantic, but I soon calm back down again. Her breaths are still at a steady pace, even after 10 minutes.

"Is she still breathing?" Christina says casually as she plays Pierce the Veil.

"Yeah, is she?" Uriah says, curious, but still casual enough to piss me off.

"Yes she's still breathing! Why wouldn't she be?" I say, my infuriation building by the second. "It's not like the nurse said to make sure she was still breathing. Why else would she tell us that? Because she just wanted to give us something to do? She obviously said it for a reason! She could die! God Chris, you can be so dumb sometimes!"

"Well then." She says scoffing.

"He kind of has a point, Christina. Why else would she tell us that?" Shauna says, rolling in her wheelchair over towards Christina.

"Yeah, I guess." Christina mumbles.

We all sit in silence, now listening to A Day to Remember. About five minutes later, we hear a door creak, Chris turns down her music, and Dr. Johnson walks in.

"What seems to be the problem here? A plug pulled, I hear?" She says, walking towards the jumble of wires near Tris's hospital bed.

"Uh, y-yes. I went to go lay down with her, pulled a wire from her arm, heard a beep, then she was passed out." I say.

"Well, it was just the plug that displays her heart rate. No big deal. Let me just hook it back up." She replies, taking a somewhat light blue tube and placing it among the wires. "She should be awake in about five minutes."

"So, just a question. Why did the nurse say to make sure she kept breathing?"

"Every wire makes the same noise when it becomes unplugged, and it could have been her oxygen source. We just do it to make sure; you never really know what could happen." She says, heading for the door. "Well, have a nice day."

"I don't know about you, but I'm going to go get Tris and I some lunch. Be right back." Christina says.

"Hey, let me come with you!" Says Will, running up and giving her a kiss on the cheek as they exit.
