'You could have told me Potter was coming to visit,' Draco grumbled as he and Hermione ate dinner.
'Honestly? I forgot. I hardly know what day it is half the time. It's driving me mad not being at work!'
'Work? I didn't go to work!' Draco leaped up, as though ready to rush to the Ministry.
'Relax, I owled Pamela this morning and told her you were ill.'
'Oh, ok-' Hammering and yelling at the front door interrupted them.
'What the hell?' Hermione drew her wand. 'They better not wake up...' Crying sounded over the baby monitor and Hermione sighed. '...Hugo.'
Hermione and Draco slipped to the front door, wands ready. Draco peeked through the window.
'It's Weasel,' he sneered.
'Great,' Hermione rolled her eyes. She opened the door a crack. 'Ron, what the hell are you doing? I live on a muggle street! Do you want them to call the police?!'
'Let me in! I'm not letting that bastard anywhere near my kids!' Ron roared. 'Why is Hugo crying? What did he do?!'
'You woke him up with all this bloody commotion!' Hermione hissed. 'Malfoy, please go check on Hugo-'
'Don't you dare, ferret! You stay away from my kids! And my wife!'
'There's no way I'm leaving you with him when he's like this!' Draco protested.
'Just do it. There's not a cat in hell's chance I'm leaving you two alone while I go deal with Hugo. Besides, I need to have a little chat with my ex-husband...'
Draco smirked and made a rude gesture at Ron, before trotting upstairs. Ron exploded into incoherent yelling.
Hermione shoved Ron away and slipped out of the door.
'Let me in! Let me at him!'
'No.'
'You...you...you're an unfit mother!'
Hermione slapped him. Ron stared at her, momentarily speechless.
'Ron!' Harry was jogging down the street. 'I'm so sorry Hermione, I didn't think...'
'Just get him out of here,' Hermione snarled and slammed back into the house.
Hermione sat on the sofa, her head in her hands.
'Here you are, little man,' Draco murmured, 'here's mummy, here she is.'
Hermione smiled shakily up at Hugo and Draco placed him gently in her arms.
'Um. So, Hermione?'
She looked at Draco, startled.
'I just wanted to thank you, for everything these past few months. You've been kind to me, even though I don't deserve it. I really appreciate it.' Draco hung his head.
'Where are you going?' Hermione saw he had a bag slung over his shoulder.
'I'm going checking in at St Mungo's,' he shrugged.
'What? No, don't be daft!'
'I've brought you nothing but trouble. I'm sorry for everything.'
'Malfoy! Wait! Draco!'
Draco paused, his hand on the door handle.
'At least finish your dinner first?'
