The weary streetlights lit up the dreary, dark street. I looked out the passenger side window and next to me was a dimly lit sign saying ' DI ER', I assumed the 'N' light was broken. The building looked stained and old. Why did David Bowie, a famous artist, bring me here? I thought in my head. And as if he read my thoughts he said ''I'm sorry it isn't fancy or nice, but it's quiet and there won't be any paparazzi or young girls looking for me here, plus the food is pretty great'' he smiled. '' Don't be silly, I love it'' I was lying about loving the diner but I loved the fact I was actually having a meal with David Bowie so I guess I was telling the truth, slightly. '' Come on then'' he smiled at me, the smile alone gave me such bad butterflies. He proceeded to undo his belt and open the door, I did the same. He came round and opened the door. '' there you go, ma'am'' he said in a low voice, impersonating a fancy taxi driver. ''Why thank you, kind sir'' I said, taking his hand as I got out the car. I began to laugh at the voice I put on which made him laugh and I felt a sudden urge to kiss him as I was a few inches of his face, i went silent and quickly turned my head away and headed for the door. '' Lets go in then!'' I smiled as I did a little awkward spin. I waited for him at the door of the diner because I was too scared to go in on my own. ''Come on, babe'' he said, pushing me playfully through the door. I played it cool although on the inside I was having a fan girl attack. I walked over to two seats at the end of the diner and sat down opposite David. He passed me a battered and torn menu which I opened, ''hmm... I'll think I'll just have a strawberry milkshake'' I said after a short silence. ''We can share some fries if you like?'' He replied. ''Sounds great.'' And with that a chubby middle aged miserable looking waitress came over to us. Her curly hair was white and looked greasy, I felt bad for her, she looked sad. ''what can I get you?'' She said, trying to sound as polite as she could. '' strawberry milkshake, banana milkshake and just a big tray of French fries, please'' David replied, confidently. '' I'll bring it out shortly'' she said, the whole time he was talking she was staring at him all wide eyed. After she disappeared I said to David half jokingly ''I think she likes you'' I smiled to hide the fact I was slightly jealous. '' Not my type'' he smiled back. '' Well, what is your type?'' I asked as I placed my chin in my hand as I looked at him. '' You'' he replied. The wave of redness grew over my cheeks again like it did in the car, fuck my overly awkward blushing genes. I didn't know what to reply, so I just looked away smiling, a few minutes passed as I avoided eye contact and fiddled with my jacket sleeve.  '' your drinks and fries, sir'' the waitress appeared again placing our drinks on the table. ''Thanks'' I mustered. '' Thank you'' he smiled at her. Don't get jealous, Lou, Don't get jealous, Lou. I said to myself, I see why my boyfriend broke up with me now. ''You know what tastes great?'' David said with a smile once the waitress had gone. ''This.'' He then proceeded to grab a few fries and dip them into his milkshake before placing them into his mouth. '' That must be so disgusting! Why would you do that?!'' I laughed. '' Lou, try it, honestly! It's not as gross as it looks'' he said reassuringly as he chuckled. I hesitantly grabbed a fry from the basket in the middle of us while I gave him a 'are you for real?' look, and dipped into the milkshake before tasting it. David stared at me the whole time half smiling. ''See?'' He finally said after I finally swallowed the food. ''Well, I mean, it isn't my ideal condiment of choice'' I began to laugh. ''But it isn't half bad, well done.'' '' The guys from my old band used to do it all the time, never understood it and sometimes felt slightly sick look at them do it but I decided to try it after a lot of peer pressure from the lads and realised it was actually kinda great.''

We talked and laughed, 2 and a half hours had passed, the fries were cold and the milkshake no longer had little bubbles in it but we had tears in our eyes and sore cheeks from laughing so much and I realised in that moment that there was no other place I would rather be and I could sit in this dirty little diner all night with this handsome man with orange hair sitting across from me to keep me company and they'd be nothing more I would need.

''How about we end this night with a lovely drive?'' He asked. '' Is the lovely drive going to be you getting rid of me finally?'' I replied cheekily. '' Louisa Taylor,'' he said grabbing my hand from across the table ''it has been an honour to have been your date tonight, I've had a wonderful time and I want to see you again tomorrow night, hopefully somewhere a bit nicer than this'' he looked at me straight in the eyes and smiled. I think I was already in love with a man I had just met who was 10 years my senior, but nothing mattered anymore. ''Come on, then'' he says standing up reaching out his hand to me. I followed him out, still looking around the diner, I didn't realise I was already at the door until it literally hit me. ''Oh my! I'm so sorry, are you hurt?! I forgot to hold the door for you! I'm such a lousy gentleman'' he said, genuinely upset, trying to have a good look at my face. I suddenly began uncontrollably laughing and soon after he was laughing, and our faces were so close together and before I could process my next move, he grabbed my face and kissed me. The most passionate kiss of my life. The butterflies were all over my body, my head was dizzy and i never wanted to stop kissing, I placed my hands on his hips as we carried on kissing for what seemed like eternity. '' How about we go down to beach?'' He asked, finally pulling away. '' let's do it'' I said, smiling at him. I didn't care that it was slightly raining and it was dark and so cold, i didn't want this night to end.
