14 years later....
"Bye, Maylen. You'll find us soon," a woman with blonde hair and a man with black hair and blue eyes stood over me. Green smoke was filling the room, and as it starts to circle us, the woman gives me a necklace with a swan on it. Then, I can't see them anymore because the smoke has completely set us apart.

"Wake up, Maylen! Wake up!" said Micah. Her red hair blew from the wind coming through the window.
"Alright!" I yelled back, then I punched her.
"What was that for?" Micah yelled back.
"I was actually in the middle of a dream, a- you know what, nevermind," and I got up to get dressed. I grabbed my necklace, and wondered what exactly I was dreaming about.
"Why aren't you excited? Do you even know what day it is today?" Asked Micah.
"It's Saturday, the-" I started.
"-the last day of the month" we finished in unison. Maybe exploring New York can take my mind off things.
"Maybe Ma'am might let us go downtown!" Micah squealed excitedly.
We got dressed and started to walk to the door of the foster care home. As we were about to leave, Ma'am blocked the door way.
"Can't imagine where you're going," she said sternly.
"Well,-" but I was cut off by Micah finishing my sentence.
"-we thought we would explore the grocery store, you know, see what new vegetables there are to buy on the market these days." She said with a convincing smile. She was good at getting away with things.
"Well then. I suppose while you are there you can buy us some new groceries, we are almost out of food," Ma'am made us a list and gave us a one hundred dollar bill. "Don't spend the extra all in one place," she gave us a wink and walked into the other room.
"That was odd," I whispered to Micah.
"Oh, and get going before the other one wakes up," Ma'am whispered as she popped her head in the hallway.
"Yes, Ma'am," replied Micah.
As we walked out of the apartment and onto the busy sidewalk, we started to head to the grocery store.
"Let me see the list," I grabbed the list from Micah's hand and read it. "I'm sorry, but I don't go grocery shopping, or any type of shopping, on days that end with y. There isn't much, I'll stay outside of the store while you run in and grab them."
"I'm not stealing, Maylen," shouted Micah.
"Shhhh!" I hushed her, "People will hear you!"
"Ma'am gave us money, and I intend to use it!" And with that, Micah walked into the store without another word.
I wasn't outside for five minutes until I got bored. I started to walk inside the store when I bumped into a girl with dirty blonde hair. Candy fell from out of her jacket.
"I'm sorry," I said sarcastically, "Didn't see you there."
"Yeah, right," she replied. She picked up the candy, looked around and said, "This never happened." Then tried to leave the store.
Before she got out, I grabbed her arm.
"Wait, you're doing it wrong.""What?"
"Rule one of stealing from a grocery store. Hiding something under your jacket doesn't work. Trust me, I know."
The girl looked at me. "How did you know I was stealing?" She asked
"I know the look," I said quickly.
"Follow me," I told her. We walked over to Micah, who was in line with soap and a few fruits. "Can I have the change, please?" I ask her.
"Sure?" Micah replies.
I take a few dollars out of the pile of money in my hand and give it to the cashier. "Can I buy this candy bar, and," I looked over to the girl, "That's it."
The cashier nodded and rang it up.
"Here you go," I gave the girl the candy bar as we exited the store. " My name's Maylen. Yours?"
"Charlotte" the girl said, "name's Charlotte."
