Letter 5

Dear Mom,

I'm sorry. I know I should've told you what was going on, but I felt like you wouldn't care or notice. But it's for the best. For me.

It's not the best for people like you who will actually miss me. But it's the best for me. It's best for everybody if I just left, died, disappeared.

I just want you to realize that you couldn't have done anything. You couldn't have saved me from killing myself, because my mind was like the ocean. By the time I had thought about telling someone about me killing myself, I was already drowning. No shrink or any special treatment could've helped me.

Don't cry for me. I don't deserved to be cried over, and I'll watch over you. Just look at the moon, and I'll be there. I know you loved me more than anything and you were my biggest fan. I just want you to know I appreciate you for everything.

Make sure Kenzie is alright. If you notice anything wrong, try to save her. Make sure all knives are in place, that she has no weapons in her rooms. Love her. Make sure she's alright. Because she told me that when I died, she'd be coming soon, and I don't want her to. I want everybody to live their life the same.

I love you more than words can describe, and I can't believe I'm saying goodbye through this stupid letter. I had to think so much about what to put, but I can't think of words. I can't believe my last words to you were, "I want Subway." Kinda funny, huh?

I know Abby's going to say I was selfish. She's going to say I let people get the best of me, and that I wasted my whole life on dance and I could've made it to Broadway. I know Abby; that's just how she is. Don't fight. Don't cry.

I'll quote Kira on this one.

"Maddie Ziegler deserves to die."

Love,

Maddie Ziegler.

Melissa sighed and picked up a magazine of Maddie's bed. She had told Maddie to clean her room before she left, but as always, she didn't listen. Their family was coming over soon, so Melissa was forced to clean her oldest daughter's room.

She put the Vogue magazine on her polished desk and began to pull the comforter off her bed. She tossed it to the floor and began to strip the sheets off her bed. She yanked on the corner and sighed. It wouldn't come un-done. She pulled harder, causing the mattress corner to come off. A black note-book tumbled to the ground.

Melissa looked at it before letting go of the wadded up green sheets. She picked up the black notebook. Maddie's notebooks all had designs or pictures on them, never plain. Also, her name wasn't on it and it was hidden. She carefully flipped to the first page.

"Dear Diary,

Today I found Kendall and Jake making out in the stairwell... I felt like Jake was cheating on me, considering he never had time for me and always felt nervous when i brought up other girls, but never in a million years would I think it was Kendall K Vertes."

"Mom! I'm home!" Maddie's voice called. The front door closed. Melissa quickly closed the notebook and lifted up the mattress. She set it under the corner and shoved the mattress back into place. Maddie's footsteps echoed as she came up the stairs, and she appeared in the doorway.

"How was school, honey?" Melissa asked. She yanked the sheets off the bed. "Aunt Caroline will be coming soon, so I decided to clean your room since you forgot," Melissa said. "Oh, mom, I'm sorry! I'll do it!" She quickly said. She picked up the sheets. Melissa nodded and began to walk downstairs, oblivious of her daughter's weird behavior.

Maddie poked at her food, listening to her mother and aunt chat about the children when they were little. "I remember when Maddie pulled the curtains off my windows. Do you?" Caroline asked. Jason, Maddie's older cousin, nudged her shoulder. "I do. Little Madison!" He joked.

Maddie shoved his arm off with force and shot a quick glare in his direction. "Awe, c'mon Little Madison! It's just a joke," Jason said. She dropped her fork to the plate and looked at him. "It's not a joke to me. I'm not little Madison!" She yelled.

She stood up and shoved the chair back, and stomped upstairs. Caroline looked at her son. "Jason, she's had a rough year. Give her a break," Caroline said. She looked at her sister with sympathy. "Melissa, I'm so sorry," She whispered.

"It's fine, Car. Maddie's just being moody," Melissa stood up and began to gather the kids' empty plates. "I'll bring in the cheesecake."

"Mrs. Ziegler, Madison was found dead in the woods, a bullet in her head. We're sorry."

I know this is short, but this is my favorite chapter ever.
