Chapter 7: Edge of Hawaii

You changed into the outfit the women in the village had given you, you held the fabric close for a moment before finally sliding back down to your knee's. You breathed deeply before sighing once more, your abilities were great but, they took too much out of you.

After a few moments, you sighed and used the wall of the hut for support before standing up and changing out of your clothing. And putting on the other garments, you strapped your daggers to your tailbone wrapping the strap around your waist.

The moment you were done you heard Maui call you from outside before he stepped into the hut and smiled at you softly before extending a hand toward you "Time to go" he said.

You smiled back at him before taking his hand and he led you outside with him. The whole village was waiting and you blushed in embarrassment at this, you weren't used to much attention since you never stay in a village to long.

A few women and men had baskets of fruit and supplies in hand, you looked at Maui and he shrugged "They didn't want me to do it" he stated and you snickered before shaking your head.

You nodded towards the elder and his people at Maui's side "Thank you for your generosity and care. We deeply appreciate this" you said and Maui nodded in agreement.

The people bowed low and rose as one before you all headed for the canoe at the edge of the Island. As you walked, you felt Maui tighten his hold on your hand and you knew he was still debating on whether to let you go with him or not. Kanaloa was a dangerous god and both you and Maui had faced him before. It never ended well for either of you.

You came to the boat to see it was a good size and large enough to make a steady yet fast trip around Hawaii if you had wanted to. The supplies and fruits were loaded into the canoe and once it was finished.

You turned to the elder and hugged him good bye, you went to your knee's to hug a little girl that you had met on your second day here. And soon you looked up in shock to see the rest of the kids wanted a hug and with a few giggles and laughs they dog piled you.

You laughed in glee as did they "I'll miss you all too" you said with a laugh.

You turned to Maui and he had a soft thoughtful smile on his face before his eye's widened and his smile faded when he brought his hand up and you giggled as you saw a kid dangle in his hand holding onto his finger. A few others around his leg laughing at his reaction.

You hug each and every one of them which was alot and rose to meet with Maui "Come back (y/n)!" a few of the kids whined sadly and their parents held them their expressions saddened as well as Maui and you boarded.

"We'll be back as soon as we can little one's. While we're gone we want you to take care of your island for us ok?" You called to then as the wind hit the sail and the Canoe rocked before starting to drift.

The kids sniffled before nodding and waving as did the rest of the people. You looked up at Maui and he smiled down at you before you both looked ahead into the evening sun.

You then leaned down and with one last look towards the Island you clutched the rudder and turned it as Maui worked the sail. After a few moments, of sailing you went to sit on the side of the Canoe.

Maui followed after you and you both sat in silence until, you noticed something moving on Maui's chest. And with a gasp you pocked his chest and he looked at you weirdly before you giggled "Little Maui!" You gasped looking at the little tattoo Maui on Maui's chest.

He sighed and rubbed his temple in annoyance "Not again" he mumbled.

Little Maui jumped around as if happy to see that you had finally noticed him "Oh your still just as cute as before. I can't believe how much you've grown!" You squealed poking at Maui's chest.

Maui glared at you half heartedly and you smiled sheepishly before poking Little Maui again. Maui then feed his peck causing little Maui to get off balance and tumble into the other side of his chest.

You rolled your eye's at Maui and chuckled "You can't honestly be jealous of your Tattoo now can you?" You said mockingly and Maui didn't answer "You know he's still you...just smaller--".

You smiled innocently at him before taking a lock of his hair and playing with it "So what do you think we'll find up there?" You asked him changing the subject.

"Something dangerous for sure" he said without looking at you.

You looked at Maui worriedly before glancing back at his hair "Well he is the god of the underworld...and magic" you then looked up at him "by the way where's..." you didn't need to finish as Maui popped open the little door in the boat revealing his magical giant hook.

You looked down at it before he closed it up and kept his gaze towards the sea "You've always been able to read my mind...but, ya know I'd be fun to read yours for once." You began softly as you twisted his hair gently in your fingers.

"You've never really let me know what your thinking...so what are you thinking?" You asked him curious.

He looked at you as if annoyed and you shrugged a smile on your face "You can't blame a girl for being curious" you exclaimed.

He rolled his eye's before saying "I'm thinking that I should've left you on that island" he said bluntly.

You expected it but it still hurt to hear and you dropped your hands from his silky hair "We've talked about this Maui--".

"Yes we did (y/n)..." he cut you off his gaze still towards the vast ocean his hands clenched tightly "And I regret letting you talk me into it" he admitted.

You sucked in a breath before you said "I get that it's dangerous Maui but, I want to be next to you to face that!" You confessed to him.

Maui clenched his teeth his stubbornness never fading "But, I don't want you here! You don't belong out here! You'll get yourself hurt or worse!" He shouted finally turning towards you and you out looked at him alittle hurt.

His expression was angered and his words obviously sincere "But we've been separated for so long Maui...our link literally severed. And you still want me as far away as possible?" You asked him hurt.

He looked at you his expression softening before he straightened up and crossed his arm's before turning away "If that's what it take's" Maui said.

You felt you breath hitch before your chest constricted painfully, you barely noticed Little Maui strangling another Maui on the edge of his chest.

"I know the cost Maui and I was willing to take it. I don't want to be away from you, I want to be with you. Why can't you except that?" You asked him.

And that's when he lost it, he stood so fast you hardly saw him move which was hard to do. He took you by the shoulders holding you to face him "I can't lose you again!" He roared he shook you slightly.

You stared at him shocked before he calmed slightly and you flew this grip loosen "I can't..." he whispered unable to meet your eye's "it was my fault we split last time. You were hurt and...and you were so far...it couldn't - I didn't..." he couldn't finish and you embraced him fast before he broke.

He held you to him and you both sat in silence as he collapsed with you in his arms onto the sail as the boat drifted peacefully.

You understood him completely but you couldn't stand to be away from him. Not now...not when you had just found him after searching for how Long.

Maui's arm's wrapped around your waist as you leaned into his torso staring into the soft sunset of Hawaii.
