Chapter 8: Kakamora

You and Maui have been sailing for a few days now with unusually peaceful skies and waves. However, you and Maui both knew that the edge of Hawaii was a dangerous place to be especially for demigods like you too.

The monsters on that side craved the power you both weilded and they had a deep, dark passion as If a goal in life to take it from God's and demigods like you both.

Now the sun was beginning to set and you were splitting a coconut with Maui. He had broken the inside for you after drinking the water inside and you were both chewing on the food inside.

Maui plopped a part in his mouth before his eye's squinted into the distance and your eye's narrowed before you leaned down to the waves. You put the coconut into the water and watched as the seaweed took it eagerly to the bottom before you stood next to Maui.

"What is it?" You asked and you looked ahead with him noticing something in the distance.

He immediately growled and you groaned as you realized who they were "Kakamora" Maui stated angrily before his nostrils flared and he turned to the sail "Dirty little pirates" he mumbled before he adjusted the sails making them tighter.

"Steer the rudder" He began and you went to your knee's your hand clutching hung the stick before your hand went to the water.

"Bank left" you said and Maui jumped up before he went to the edge of the canoe rocking it forward nearly making you roll forward before you stick your foot out to balance yourself. You pull the rudder right and the canoe is pushed by the waves towards the sunset.

You turned slightly and you eye's widened slightly at how close to he Kakamora ship had gotten "Maui. We have a problem" you said and Maui turned before gasping his eye's wide before e adjusted the sail and to hehe winds shoved the boat further.

You both held onto the wooden edges of the canoe to hehe keep balance as the canoe speeds the opposite way. However, Kakamora had bigger plans.

A spear dashes past your head with a terrifyingly close zip through the air and you gasp turning as it sticks into the canoe. Maui growled angrily before he rips the spear from the sail and throws it back at the ship.

It narrowly misses piercing one of the devilish pirates and Maui glares at the ship as its hovering above you now.

"Steer the ship. I'll be back" he says darkly and you look at him confused but he already has his hook in hand. He jumps up and his body changes, his hook and his human body disappear into the form of a brown feathered hawk.

Hawk Maui Flys above towards the ship his talons taking hold of one kakamora's shoulders before throwing him upward and into another like a bowling ball.

Your eye's narrowed as you stood to your feet and pulled against the sail rope. The canoe steered away from the ship and you dodged a few spears headed your way. You looked back to make sure Maui was ok.

His hawk form swooped in and out of the ship tossing the Kakamora off the ship or into one another. Suddenly, you noticed another Kakamora at the top in the nest and your eye's widened "Maui! Look out!" You cried before the Kakamora jumped off the nest towards his bird form.

Maui swooped out of the way but not fast enough as it clipped his wing causing his transformation to falter. He however prevailed but, that didn't stop you from taking hold of one of the tied spearheads from the ship connected to your canoe.

Your feet already on the rope, you took a deep breath before unsheathed tour weapon and scaling up the rope swiftly. You jumped up and onto the ship after a few long strides and kicked a Kakamora off the ship sending it screaming.

Maui saw you immediately and he met the ground as a human with an angry look "What do you think your doing?!" He asked you swinging at a Kakamora with his hook like a stick.

You smiled at him nervously "I'm sorry but, you know I hate it when you fight without me" you answered right hooking one of the little pirates to the ground and avoiding one stabbing at your foot as Maui stepped on him leaving him squirming.

"Canoe. Now" he said sternly as he took one Kakamora by the coconut tossing it over this shoulder into the water below before you sighed and while avoiding a Kakamora you cut loose the rope holding up the sail. It disengaged from the boat lifting you off your feet before you swing from the boat to your canoe on the water. You let go the moment it's above the canoe and roll onto your canoe before looking up for Maui.

You take a deep breath when it begins to quiet and you can't see Maui anywhere. The spearhead on the boat is now gone and the canoe has begun it's sailing slowly away from the boat.

"Maui!" You call towards the boat and your eye's widen and you get to your feet quickly when you receive no answer.

"MAUI!" Your cry and you gasp in shock as the boat begins to crack loudly. It was a huge structure made of fine yet chipped wood, too many fractures would definitely lead to a deconstruction.

"Maui!?" You call once more before you stop the canoe slightly as it sits in the soft waves as the boat begins to split. The Kakamora remaining begin to panic and some flee while others end themselves in order to make their ends quick.

But, no Maui.

You breathe heavily in panic before running forward and diving into the waters below. You look around with the seaweed guiding you from below before you swim and kick towards the bottom of the splitting ship.

You notice Maui at the side of the ship in shark form this time battling raging Kakamora at least six of them. He was hurt, his blood flowing in front of him as it poured from a wound on his chest.

You swam harder while extending your left hand calling for the seaweed below to help you, your eye's glowed a faint green and bubbles rose to meet the surface.

You watched as seaweed took the pirates by their legs and dragged them below, you were soon next to Maui and you and him swam upwards meeting air.

You both gasped for it greedily before you shook your head of see a water, Maui looks at you alittle upset "I told you to go back" he says breathing deeply as you both male your way to the Canoe.

"I told you, I'm not leaving you." You answered simply. The canoe was now yards away from you both, Maui growled before his arm's was around your waist and he swam for you both.

After a few seconds, you heard a loud crack and you turned along with Maui. You both cried out as you were suddenly submerged violently nearly taking the breathe out of you.

Maui's grip on you loosened but, you grabbed hold of his arm before he let go. His hand was around your wrist trying to pull you both up but his wound was slowing him down.

You needed air and you knew Maui felt the strain of it as well, you kicked upwards Maui's hand in your own. That is before you were hit by a wooden board as another wave hits you both sending you both spiraling backwards.

You feel Maui's grip go from loose to non existent as you finally stop spinning and water fills your nose and lungs developing an uncomfortable and cold feeling in your chest.

Your vision blurs underwater but, you know one things clear.

Maui's gone.

You turned in the water with a desperate look as you turn once more looking into the vast pit of darkness. You reach into the back of your mind grabbing at the connection between you and the Seaweeds of any other living thing around.

As you look for it as well as kick around trying to escape this water around you. You can't figure out which way is down or up.

You can't feel any connection and for once you truly felt alone, especially as red began to full your vision from the cut on your forehead from your collision with the board.
