The Aftermath: Kaider

Kai and I are civil throughout dinner, eating with Torin and other distinguished guests they pulled together for my welcome dinner. We have good conversations and talk about politics and anything else I can think of, since I was the guest of honor, but by the time we got to dessert I was feeling just a bit overexcited. When are we going to tell everyone? How are we? What if I fall? What if Torin disapproves? Wait that's silly. I'll be fine. I reach over and grab Kai's hand hoping to gain some of his calm aura when he looks at me and I nod. Kai stands up, motioning for me to remain seated for a moment. He shows me something in his pocket so that only I could see it. A little velvet box. I understand what Kai is doing now. Giving the world a story, our friends know the truth but the rest of the world needs to see it. I silently slip me ring off my finger and pass it to him under the table and he slips it into the box, all in a matter of moments. He stands all the way up and calls for attention. He looks around the room and gives everyone a lengthened version of the speech he gave me just a week ago. I did my best to act surprised and, even though I couldn't blush or cry, I covered my face like I was doing both. He got down on one knee and proposed. After a few moments of feigned surprise and excitement I nodded and jumped into his arms. Everyone began to clap and, even though he'll never admit it now, I say Torin wipe a tear from his cheek. Press was already there taking pictures and recording everything. We kissed one another for good measure and the room broke out in very uncultured whoops and whistles I never expected of these highly sophisticated people. Tonight was my night all over again. No more secrets, no more lies, no more crazy aunts trying to marry your boyfriend and dying in the process. All I knew is that Kaito was mine and mine alone, always and forever.
