I grit my teeth, my vision still a blurred mess. I can see a bright outline, only one thing I can see. It's Abel, guessing by the sound of his voice is coming from there. I sigh, thinking about what the people were saying.
I don't believe them, I think. I'm not using him...
I strain to continue listening to Abel, the only thing I can see. But another two voices drop in and I perk up. "What? You just remembered us? Aww, that's too bad. Cause I've remembered you~" I hear the girls voice definitively. Her voice sounds firm, yet fragile like she's always putting up a tough front. I continue to listen.
This time, a boy's voice echoes. "Wait, what exactly do you remember?" She stays silent, intentionally avoiding his question. "Oh, I see how it is here!" They continue to fight.
Abel speaks boisterously, clearly annoyed. "Are you really gonna do this now? Cause unlike back then I actually want an education. You better just back off or explain your stupid ass reasoning. So, go ahead, Anna and Naoko." My chest feels a sudden pressure like many eyes is watching me at once.
I look down to my hands, which stay idle as I support my weight on the cane. I hear a collected sigh, and the boy, Naoko, remarks, "Come ON Abel, I don't be like that! She is clearly your type from what I remember." He flashes a look at me. "She ain't that bad, either. Weird that she is just looking off to nothing, is she blind? Must be an advantage for you."
My blood surged through me, boiling my skin to the point where I nearly wanted to use my power to hurt him. "I'm not listening to this bullshit." Abel hisses. I look up, clenching my fists. "You should really have more respect for the impaired." Everyone around them whispers and hiss like snakes. I stand back, stiff-legged, and observe. I'm too scared I'll take a wrong step without Abel next to me.
Abel looks over to me. "We can talk later, I have to go to class." I look up, confused.
Why isn't he fighting? I think. He has every reason and a chance to.
He walks over to me, and I'm relieved to see him a bit better than before, so grab onto his arm, keeping up with his long and slouched pace. "Why didn't you hurt them?" I ask, looking up at him.
"Because it's not worth it. Why cause pain when they didn't do anything threatening." Abel looks down to me. "They did say things about you, though, so they will pay graciously for that." We look down the hall to our classroom.
I wonder why he didn't defend himself and only defended me. I'm okay, I don't need his help. He probably needs more help than me, knowing him. I'll let him have this, I guess.
We continue to walk down the hallway, and then take a right to an abrupt dead end, with a door. I squint, using my barely working eyes to just make out the letters plastered on the tile. 'Psychology, class 304' I move my head down more and outstretch my hand to make out the bumps under it. This must be braille. I should learn some just in case, I think. Abel slides the door open, sitting in one of the long tables. My vision gets clearer, so I step in front of Abel, looking at all of his face details. He smirks at me, murmuring "So, you can see again?"
I feel my face flush slightly, and I make a small smile. I shrug and we continue to our seats, which he sits a row behind me, one to the right of mine. I listen to the class while drawing, which is a tactic I use to listen better. I don't even pay attention to the teacher, who has now entered the room and has begun an introduction to the class.
"All humans have strange behaviors, but some have behavior that is so extreme we have no choice but to give their behavior a name. Names like bipolarity, anxiety, multiple personality disorder or even one as rare as Schizotypal Personality Disorder." I whip my head up and look straight at the teacher, and cover my hanging mouth with my hand. He was staring right at me and smirking. It's HIM. He continues, "Who knows? Maybe one of you has something even you don't know about."
Those words echo through my mind, and I scream, falling off my chair and hiding under the extended table...
