AUTHORS NOTE: Before I begin, I would like to say thanks for all of your support, and drop a comment to see more!~ Here's chapter 8
I roll off my bed, landing on the floor hard enough to be jolted from my light stupor to the warm feeling of the smooth, weathered floorboards. Phoenix walks past my door, laundry hampers in hand. She gives me a strange look, then smiles. "I was gonna wake you up, but it seems you did that yourself." I stare her down, looking at her in her teal tank top and jammie shorts. She's absolutely beautiful, curvy and has a great personality. That's why I need to keep her with me. Too many people would like her, and I have to keep her safe.
"Would you just reply and also, MY FACE," She adds, pointing to her face "UP HERE, BUDDY," She walks away, pointing at me, then back up to her face repeatedly. "Up here."
I laugh as she walks back into her room, and I hear the faint sound alike to a streaming waterfall from the shower. I sigh, slowly getting up to walk into the bathroom connected to my room, splashing my face with water from the sink. I take off my clothes, stepping into the shower and washing and lathering the soap in my hair.
I dry myself off and get dressed into my school uniform. I step out into the hallway, and into the main area. Phoenix is in the kitchen, with an apron on and she's cooking. I sniff, and it smells like pancakes."Ooh! Pancakes!" I walk up into the kitchen, leaning on the counter. "To be honest here, you look great in an apron" She takes it off, throwing it over my head.
She finishes making the pancakes and puts them on two plates, leaving the butter and maple syrup out to use. I sit down next to her. "Our first day of school, huh?" I say, breaking the silence. She nods as she chews on her pancake. "You worried about your power acting up?" She looks at me, her eyes showing fear. She nods slowly, swallowing a bite.
"I stayed up so late thinking about that. What is it happens and you're not there?" She gazes at me, looking for a reaction. Her voice starts to shake "What do I do, Abel?"
Our eyes meet and realize she's crying. I hush her, using my thumb to wipe her tears, pulling her close into an embrace. "It's gonna be okay. I met with the headmaster and made sure we had the same classes. You know how? I told her you were blind and needed to have a guide."
She buries her face in my chest. " Okay, but one question. You're even gonna be in my Psychology class?" She exults.
I roll my eyes, smiling. "Yeah, I'll be there. The human brain, oh, joy!" I chirp. She laughs and we sit there, not wanting to let go. We eventually have to get up and leave, walking hand in hand to school since she is still injured. We let go a block away because we can't let anyone know we live together.
When we are just outside of the gate, she tugs on my bag, causing me to turn. Her face has the same look of fear, but I give her my arm, and she holds on, placing the sunglasses over her head as she uses her other arm to tap the cane on the floor. We continue walking inside, me running through my locker number in my head. I walk down the stretched hallway, not paying attention to all of the faces that turn my way, hearing whispers just out of focus. I don't strain to listen, though, because there isn't a point.
I get to my locker, and I slowly dial my combination in, opening it and grabbing my things for class. I look over and see Kasumi walking down the hall in her uniform, as she continues to tap her cane on the ground. She fleets her eyes up to me, and I wink at her, continuing to pull my things out of my locker and putting them into my bag. I turn and walk down to homeroom.
I finally get to the room, and I draw a deep breath, exhaling slowly before I push the door open, seeing all of the students until I see Phoenix, sitting in the middle row all the way to the wall, looking out the open window as the wind lightly tousles her hair. I sit in the same column, but in the back row so people don't realize we know each other yet.
I stare at the back of her head, wishing I could sit next to her. She daintily places earbuds in her ears, pulling out an MP3 and flipping through the music. She selects one and presses the button to play.
She looks to the side out the window again, this time her bangs have been put behind her ear, and I admire her beautiful complexion from a distance as the teacher walks in.
She stands behind her half-circular mahogany desk and goes through our names on the piece of paper clipped to her clipboard. "When I call your name, stand and tell everyone your full name and favorite subject."
She calls each name and as each student stands up, they do as asked of them. "Abel." She says.
I stand, fidgeting with my fingers "My name is Abel Masato, and my favorite subject is Science." I sit down and the teacher continues to call names.
"P-Phoenix." She stuttered. "Sorry, your name is beautiful but hard to say I guess."
Phoenix stands, looking down "I'm Phoenix Aega, and My favorite subject is writing."
The teacher grins "I'm the literature teacher, so I'm excited to see your work!" She turns to the class. "I forgot to say, my name is Ms. Atsisuto, nice to meet all you and I hope we have a great year!"
Phoenix sits down, looking out the window to the horizon. I sit, mesmerized by her. Ms. Atsisuto walks down the aisle to me, but I don't notice until she is standing in front of my desk. "Mr. Masato, I recommend you refrain from staring at her and pay attention to the orientation." I snap out of the trance and look up to her.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming." I intone. "I'll pay attention more." I smile to her, and Ms. Atsisuto walks back to her desk and continues to drone. I hear several girls from my class start to whisper to each other, and I hear very clearly.
"He's so cute! He must be pretty absentminded!"
"He is so hot, maybe he's your type!"
"Don't lie, you're hoping he's your type too!"
They all giggle to each other, then start taking note from the lesson. I hate girls like that. They don't even know me. Not like I would even be interested in them. I have someone else on my mind.
I look forward and see that Phoenix heard the conversation as well, but her expression shows pure ambivalence. She looks back to me and realizes I'm looking so she whips her head forward and starts writing something I can't see through her hair. I want to see it, but I don't want to peep on her.
