"I've got an appointment this morning... Then we can go ice skating..."

"Will you come on the ice with me mum?"

Connie took the keys and ushered her out the door, "no... But if you ask your dad nicely, he might..."

"Mum..." Mia asked, wrapping her arms around Connie's waist gently,

"Yes sweetheart?" She asked, handing her daughter her seat belt before putting her on own,

"What happened to your leg?" She asked, and Connie sighed, "I was in a car accident... Before you were born... It was before me and your dad were married... I had come up here to see him, and was driving back home... The roads were really slippery from the snow and I crashed into a tree..."

"And they couldn't stitch your leg back on?"

Connie shook her head, "no sweetheart,"

"When you walk you don't look like you have a different leg," Mia smiled, "you must be like a super hero,"

Connie started the car, driving them on the short drive to the hospital,

"Did you look after mum when she had her car accident?" Mia asked Jacob as Connie rolled her eyes fondly at him,

"Of course I did sweetheart,"

"Did he give you lots of cuddles?"

"Lots," Connie smiled.

"Schools closed... The heatings broken... Is it okay if she joins us?"

"Of course," the physio smiled,

"Is there anything you want to do, that

you think the leg won't allow?" The Consultant asked her,

She looked at Jacob and they both shook their heads,

Mia nudged Connie, and she raised an eyebrow, "Ice skating..." Mia whispered and the physio smiled,

"Have you tried?"

Connie smiled, "I suppose she's right... I don't think it's the leg... I think it's me... It makes me nervous to be honest... Falling on the ice and potentially damaging a leg that has been working so well for me doesn't seem sensible..."

The physiotherapist nodded, "I can see where you're coming from,"

Mia pouted, before smiling as the Consultant pointed to a video clip, "the last thing we need is your consent... If you're happy... We have a conference coming up and we'd love to show the video of your progress... We would also like to interview you as part of the presentation,"

Connie nodded, "that's fine, I'd be happy too,"

"Can I watch the video mummy?" Mia asked as Connie nodded,

Connie rolled her eyes, leaning into Jacob as they watched the video play out before them.

Mia was intrigued, and Jacob held Connie tightly into his chest, they hadn't expected to be watching such a video today and his heart was filled with pride as he watched how far his wife had come.

"Well done Mrs. Masters," the Consultant smiled, "if you're happy we will send you details of the conference,"

"Thank you," she nodded shaking his hand, before hugging the physio gently, "come on Mia... Leave the poor physio alone..."

Their daughter was quiet as they walked into the car, "what are you thinking about Mia?" Jacob asked and she wrapped her arms around Connie,

"I knew you were brave mummy... But I didn't know you were that brave..."

Connie smiled, "I had to learn to walk again didn't I so I could play with my favourite girls and walk Rolo,"

"Is that why you got her and love her so much?"

Connie smiled, "yes, she was a reason to go for a walk every day... And she's always been protective over all of us,"

"I love you mum," Mia mumbled into Connie and Jacob took the keys gently from Connie's hand before kissing her mouth,

"I love you too sweetheart."

"Do you remember when mum had her accident Paige?" Mia asked and Paige looked up from her coursework,

Jacob beckoned her into the kitchen, "I presume she doesn't know the details of everything that happened uncle Jacob?"

He shook his head, "only that she had a car accident..."

Paige sat next to Mia, "yes I remember sweetheart..."

"Did you visit her in hospital?"

"Yes," she nodded,

"And she's okay now isn't she Paige?"

Paige wrapped her arm around her younger cousin, "why all the questions Mia?"

She shrugged, "I didn't think about it before and then I went to an appointment with mum and dad today and someone at school asked about mums leg after they saw her out running..."

"You don't need to worry," Paige smiled, "your mum is super brave and used to her leg the way it is... And I think that's really cool."

"Me too," Mia smiled, watching how Connie called them through for dinner.

"Did you know her legs attached by a really strong magnet that attached to the metal that comes out of her skin?" Mia grinned, "I didn't know magnets could be that strong,"

"She's asking a lot of questions today," Connie uttered as she allowed Sophie to cuddle into her,

Paige kissed Connie's cheek, "she's going to be as clever as you two,"

Connie rolled her eyes, "don't you start," she smiled.
