November 2007
A cool breeze swept the air sending an eerie chill down Dee's spine. Although he had been parked in the same spot for eight hours now, he wouldn't dare move or take his eyes away from the governor's mansion he was staking out.
Don had gotten a request from the Dominquez Cartel to take out some politician who was sticking his nose in the wrong business. Literally, and also figuratively. Whoever this guy was, he owed the cartel a shit ton of money and was working with the FEDS to ensure he didn't have to pay.
Dee was chosen to collect his soul as payment.
Usually Dee wouldn't take on such a high profile case, but Don said that working with the Cartel would ensure that Dee was set for life, and well... He couldn't resist.
Dee watched as the governor kissed his wife and kids goodbye. They were going on a trip to visit his wife's family, but the governor planned to use this time alone to catch up on his extracurricular activities. Too bad time wasn't on his side.
The governor's wife and kids waved goodbye as the black suburban pulled out of their driveway. Dee watched the governor shoo away his guards and retreat back inside the mansion.
After waiting another hour, Dee pulled up the security app on the burner phone he had and cut all of the governor's security. Knowing that he was pressed for time, Dee moved in swiftly for the kill.
________________Cruising down the interstate in silence, Dee fumbled with his vibrating phone. Silence was his way of meditating and clearing his mind after doing a job, this one was no different.
If only Nia could catch a hint and stop blowing him up.
Ruby would never pull a stunt like that. If she called once and Dee didn't pick up, she was definitely done calling for the rest of the day. The funny thing about that was, it bothered Dee when Ruby didn't call more than once.
"Yeah?" Dee answered his phone agitated. This had to be Nia's tenth time calling.
Nia frowned looking at her phone. "Um, I haven't heard from you all day! Now you have an attitude because I've been calling to check on you?!" Nia shot back not feeling Dee's tone.
Hell, Dee should be lucky Nia cared enough to make sure his ass was alive. Never had she ever worked this hard to keep a nigga's attention. Nia and Dee had been seeing each other four months now, and he was still fronting like he didn't want a relationship.
"You don't have to call me more than once Nia! If I didn't pick up or hit you back, clearly I'm busy! I'm tired of telling you about blowing my shit up. You're one call away from the block list," Dee stressed. He hated that clingy shit, and Nia was the epitome of clingy.
"Why are you so mean to me?" Nia whined causing Dee to roll his eyes. "You know how I feel about you, and knowing you're safe helps me sleep better."
"Yeah aight, just don't let the shit happen again." Dee sighed.
He was exhausted and all he wanted to do was plop down in his bed and sleep. There was never a mission that required him to be so careful. Dee was usually in and out, but tonight he had to be meticulous. Nothing was out of place or could be traced back to the Cartel or Demetrius. The boy was good.
"Sorry daddy, how about you come over and I make it up to you?' Nia purred through the phone.
"Nah, I'm just gonna go home and crash. I'm exhausted," Dee yawned using one hand to grip the steering wheel, and the other to rub his eyes.
Nia smacked her lips.
"You must've been laid up inside some other bitch! What nigga turns down pus-" Nia started before Dee cut her off by ending the call. He proceeded to place her ass on the block list.
