One Year Later
"Hey, that doesn't go there! Put that in the upstairs nursery," Ruby fussed as the movers from the moving company placed her things everywhere but where they were supposed to go.
Dee and Ruby had just moved into their new place right off the coast of South Carolina. It wasn't a private island like they always dreamed, but their private lake was good enough for the both of them.
"If you don't let these people do their jobs," Dee laughed walking up behind Ruby. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pecked the side of her neck.
"I have no problem letting them do their jobs, the problem is they're not doing it right! Hey," Ruby called out to one of the movers as he dropped a box on the floor too hard.
"Ru, come out back with me man." Demetrius laughed pulling Ruby's arm. He knew as long as Ruby was in the way she'd make the men work harder than they needed to. Ruby was a perfectionist.
Sighing heavily before taking one last look at the movers, Ruby reluctantly followed Demetrius to the back deck. Ruby was in love with their new home. The view of the lake from the back of their home was breathtaking.
"Have you talked to Zay and Anastasia?" Ruby asked realizing that the two hadn't returned with her princess yet.
Zay and Tasia were Karma's godparents, and since Anastasia didn't have any plans of having a baby anytime soon, she took full advantage of spending time with Karma.
"Mhm, they'll be back down tomorrow. I told them I wanted the house to be somewhat in order before bringing Karma home."
Ruby nodded. Her daughter was definitely a busy body and wouldn't waste any time getting into something.
"I'm a little nervous about the lake babe, I don't want Karma to ever fall in or anything." Ruby confessed.
"We'll teach her to swim," Dee shrugged causing Ruby to smack his head. "I'm playing man. I'll get a fence put up." He laughed.
"Good," Ruby smiled. "So how are you feeling about everything?"
"As far as what?" Dee asked taking a seat and pulling Ruby down in his lap.
"As far as our lives together, your new business venture, everything babe."
"I'm cool with it. I mean, I can't lie and say I don't miss the hustle and bustle of the fast life... But what I got here is worth much more."
"Well I'm excited about it!" Ruby perked up. "You get to be home more, you can walk around freely without looking over your shoulder, and you're gonna help shape and mold the lives of young people baby."
Dee took a small portion of his stash and opened a group home for homeless and at risk youth. Not only was it a group home, but it was also a community center with limitless resources.
After making so many promises to God and having countless conversations with Zay, this was something Demetrius felt like he needed to do.
The problem with the youth today was that they knew when they were being bullshitted.
The city takes some asshole with a degree and put them in charge of these children. Nevermind the fact that they know nothing about the struggle and could care less about what they've been through. That person just wants their check. Children can see through that. If you're showing them that you don't care, they won't care either.
Demetrius cares. He's been through what they've been through and knows the feeling. That's the difference between him and some city official.
"Change is good right?" Dee asked pecking Ruby's lips.
