Jeff looked like he was about to break down, tears endlessly streaming down his eyes and looking down with a pale expression. Honestly I was about to cry myself staring at Ray, who looked like he was silently napping under the dim light of the lava.
At least he looked peaceful, like wherever he ascended to was the best place in existence. Perhaps in a world where all our deceased friends are there... I felt the tears welling up.

"I wanna go home..." Jeff cried in a childish tone.
"Austin I wanna go home..."

Me too Jeff, me too... but we can't. At least not yet; we still had a mission that the others died trying to accomplish.

"Jeff..." I softly said, gently placing my unstable hands on his shoulder.
"We need to find Nether-Wart... we can't just leave now or else they died for no reason."

He gulped, nodding.
"R-r-right... McJones would've wanted us to..." he stopped.

"Yes. He would've. Now let's stick together and go in the other direction." I said commandingly but still softly.

I helped him up, he equipped his iron sword and pulled up his shield. I did the same, slinging my wooden bow over my back and something precious in my inventory. I clipped McJones' shiny diamond pickaxe on my belt. He had handed it to me to dig a hole in the shack, and I guess I forgot to give it back.
I owe it to him, he probably knew his demise was near... Stewart was way too smart for me.

We walked for about a kilometre or two, keeping on our toes. It was surprisingly silent... too silent. Once again I was right, another three wither stepped out of their hiding spots and split us up.
I deliberately tumbled down a flight of stairs located ever so conveniently next to me, while I heard Jeff screaming my name. Can't we get one minute of break?

I got up slowly, back reacting again - the pain led me to believe that the wound might be open again. Of course I was wrong but it hurt like hell...

"Jeff you alright?" I shouted.
"Jeff?"

Silence.

I forced myself off the ground and looked around my surroundings... it was a dark dungeon like place with several entrances and exits. Of course most of that was ignored when I looked in the other direction... why?
Well it was hard to remember that caves existed when there was a whole stack of Netherwart two meters in front of me.
JACKPOT!

I unclipped the pickaxe and started breaking in down - man I can't wait to show this to Jeff!

[Jeff POV]

Oh no Austin fell!
Oh no oh no oh no!
The moment I look over my shoulder whilst running for my life I noticed Austin fall and tumble painfully down the stairs.
I didn't have time to see if he was okay though as two wither skeleton advanced upon my with its swords displayed in a deathly fashion. I ran straight back into the hideout where we barricaded the entrance with netherack and had a lockable door.

I ran inside and began barricading the door when I realized that Austin was still out there! I couldn't just block the door and leave him out to die!!!

Closing the door and hiding in the corner was my best option...

Clearly it was not as the door was broken down in a fraction of a second and two wither skeleton poured in, ready to kill.
The element of surprise was in my hand, and you better believe I USED it!
Stabbing the first through the face with my iron sword was however, a dumb move as my weapon was stuck inside its skull. The second advanced and stabbed me in the arm...

I screamed with pain, but I realized he was basically trapped as well.
With one final stroke, I let go of the sword and smashed him down with my shield. I mercilessly stomped the living hell out of the skeleton until it's nothing more than bonemeal.

The sword still stuck in my arm, I wrenched it out and watched hopelessly as my health declined rapidly. I reached for the steak, clutching it tightly in my right hand as I collapsed.
I must not let the poison get to me!
Furiously munching on the steak I watched my regeneration fiercely counter the rapid intake of poison.

The poison grew faster, starting to take several hearts per second - I was hopeless to watch as the hearts began decreasing more significantly.
Eight hearts... six.... three... one..

I closed my eyes.

[Austin POV]

With a full stack of Netherwart in my inventory I dashed up the stairs to meet with Jeff.
Instead I was greeted by several blazes and withers gathering around the puny little door we set up.

Jeff!

I slashed the blaze across the back of the skull with so much force that it fell into pieces and buried my pick into the head of the wither. I felt the heat of the blaze rod land squarely on my gut, knocking the wind out of me.
Forcing myself through the door, I screamed as I tried to put out the fire that was spreading across my armour.
Hastily I locked the door and barricaded it with two soils.

After realizing why I rushed in the first place.
"Jeff!" I yelled, looking around in the dimly lit hub area.
"Jeff you there?"

Someone moaned near one of the corners and I immediately rushed to the source of the sound.
There lay Jeff - clutching his stomach and lay barren in an awkward angle. His face was pale... oh no...

"Jeff? Jeff! Jeff! JEFF!" I screamed.

No this can't be! He died?! He can't leave me alone - just because I neglected him for too long! I have never had to face any of these challenges alone! I can't...

"HA! You should've seen the fear in your eyes!"

I punched Jeff in the face.

Godammit.
