John, Herc, and Lafayette continued showing Alex around small town. It seemed you could walk from anywhere there if you took the time. Favorite hang out spots and places to stay away from were clearly pointed out before they settled down under a fig tree at the park which was in the center of the town.
"See that statue?" John pointed to a statue placed in the very center of the small park. It was of a man riding a horse and wearing a revolutionary war uniform. "Yeah" Alex replied, looking at the statue.
"That is a great man. You my or my not have heard about him. His name's Lin-Manuel Miranda. You probably don't know who he is, being from the Caribbean and stuff" John smiled and fiddled with some grass beside him.
"Are you serious?! Of course I know who Lin-Manuel Miranda is! One of the founding fathers and first secretary of theatre!" Alex said excitedly, "Hell he was so amazing that they made a musical out of him! I wish I could get tickets"
(A/N just work with me guys it's my alternate universe and I can shift it however I want. only in a perfect world would Lin be a founding father of America though)
"Really you know about him?! I didn't think it would reach all the way to where you're from" Lafayette said a little puzzled but also relieved. "Okay, just because I'm from someplace other than America, doesn't mean I know zippy zap about the culture" Alex chuckled.
"Yo Alex. I want to know, who were you before you came here? Like what led you to move to America" Hercules questioned. Alex hesitated. It was quite the sensitive subject to discuss, especially to someone he had just met that day.
Alex wanted to explain but it was difficult. He drew a quivering breath and wanted to cry. I don't want to tell them. I can't relive it. I can't. He thought as he looked down at the grass, knowing his eyes were turning red and threatening to spill tears. He thought back to his mother dying of illness. His brother James being killed by the hurricane. His cousin committing suicide.
He began hyperventilating and tears began spilling from his eyes. He started getting lightheaded and couldn't even hear the others calling his name and shaking him.
But then a warm weight wrapped around him. Suddenly everything seemed to become more clear and calm. Once he was able to get his senses straight, he realized that he was being held by John. Alex felt small in his arms, but that was comforting. He let out a still shaky sigh as he closed his eyes and leaned more into John's arms.
"You alright, Alex?" John asked ever so softly. "Mhm. Thank you John" Alex breathed into John's neck. Laf and Hercules simply sat back and watched, but didn't notice that their hands had found way to each other and intertwined their fingers.
Alex felt warm and safe in John's arms, and he never wanted to leave that position. "Alex I'm...I'm really sorry I-I didn't think it would make you so upset" Hercules said apologetically. Alex shook his head, "It's fine, you didn't really know. I might tell you some day in the future but now I just...I can't relive it" Alex said in a low shallow voice.
Hercules nodded and looked down. They sat in silence for a few moments, which honestly felt like hours. John finally released his hold and earning a whimper from Alex.
"Are you three done with your pity party?" They all turned around to see a girl emerging from the other side of the fig tree. There stood a girl with somewhat dark skin and long wavy dark hair. She looked like a Freshman. She smiled down at them. Alex thought she kind of looked like Moana.
"Hey Pegs!" Beamed Hercules. "Hey Herc. So are you guys going to introduce me to the new kid or am I just going to awkwardly stand here?" She laughed
"Peggy, mon ami, this is Alexander. Alexander, this is Peggy" Lafayette said, taking his hand out of Hercules'.
"Please, just call me Alex" Alex said. "Alright Alexander, Alex it is. And if we're going to be all buddy-buddy about it, you can call me Peggy. Pegs is an earned privilege" she winked.
"Yo, where are Angelica and Eliza?" John asked, looking around. "Being nerds" Peggy sighed as she plopped down next to the other four.
"Who are Angelica and Eliza?" Alex asked. "My sisters. You'll meet them later" she smiled.
A/N alright crappy chapter I know. Hopefully next chapter introductions will finish
