Deep in thought Valerie heard her wrist comm buzzing to life and awakened from her meditative state. For a few seconds she did not at first realise what was going on but quickly remembered that she was to meet her master on the bridge.... At what time? Oh, now.... That was probably her.
Valerie hesitantly clicked her wrist comm on, her masters voice came buzzing in from the other end.
"Padawan, I am awaiting you on the bridge, please come to me as organised, the admiral will make his call at 1700."
Lornetta was always proper like this.
"Yes, master"
Valerie replied and clicked off her wrist comm off.
Knowing her master, Valerie immediately made her way up to the bridge. Along the way she sensed many lives in the force- sensing their lives, their emotions. She took it all in calmly, these emotions seemed to soothe her- her master ridiculed her for this.
Valerie finally reached the door to the bridge, she took a deep breath in to further calm herself and proceeded to press the controls on the door panel. The large blast doors immediately whisked open. There looking through the window, barely noticing Valerie's arrival was her master, Lornetta. Lornetta turned around briskly at the approaching steps of her padawan.
"Are you prepared, my apprentice?"
"Prepared master? It's just a battle, cruiser to cruiser? We do it all the time. Of course I am prepared!" Valerie retaliated, almost offended.
"Padawan, over-confidence is never a good thing. This battle has turned out to be worse than it seems. During our jump to hyperspace, we recieved word that the separatists have begun a blockade on Korriban. We have been given new orders to rendevouz with master tolack. We will be concealed by one of the moons of the planet but will still have a view of the battle field, we are to not engage until we are given the order to. Understood?" Lornetta said with a militant voice in that last sentence, giving her padawan the impression that this was serious.
"Yes master" Valerie replied briskly.
Just at that moment, the redeemer exited hyperspace, as the planet slowly blurred into vision, Valerie saw the blockade- she saw the debris of two Jedi cruisers and one slowly, and painfully crashing towards the harsh tatooine like planet below.
The redeemer slowly grinder behind one of the moons. Korriban had several moons, this made it easy for a surprise attack from behind one of the moons. "Nice plan, master" Valerie thought to herself. Master Vari must of heard that last thought as she turned to her padawan and gave her a quizzical look as if to say that she was the master; therefore always right. Valerie just rolled her eyes.
At that moment Valerie witnessed master tolack's Fleet leave hyperspace, just beside her position. Master Tolack's fleet consisted of three Jedi cruisers- entity, velocity and the fire bird. Her fleet also had a small escort of three ships. Master Loretta's fleet had one Jedi cruiser, of course the redeemer and a small escort of three ships also. From memory, Valerie knew that her masters ship had only one squadron of fighters- green squad. The flagship of this small fleet was to be the redeemer.
Just as Valerie was admiring the astounding size of her master's fleet, a clone trooper notified her and her master of an incoming transmission coming from the entity. "Yes, captain, put the call through" master lornetta said as she, and her apprentice, made their way over to the comm station.
"Greetings, master lornetta." A young voice came in from the other side of the communication, the young girl was of the togruta species.
The girl had short headtails, her montreals looked a little more developed- them being more on the side of pointed and arched. The girl wore a light coloured crop top and below was wearing a long, also light coloured skirt with a set of dark criss-crossed belts. Over her head she had a light coloured hood that was connected to her crop top- also the same colour. Of course Valerie couldn't tell the colour of her new found, possible ally because it was a holo transmition.
"Hello, padawan" lornetta stated.
"Who is she?" Valerie questioned her master.
"I am padawan Techla Jamari, I am pleased to meet you padawan...." Techla replied
"Valerie maraan, Jedi padawan" lornetta responded before Valerie could open her mouth. Valerie hated how her master did that, ever since she was Little that's what her master did..... But the thing is she was no longer little, she was 15 years old. It seemed unfair, all the other padawans had way more freedom than her.....
"So what is the plan?" Techla interrupted Valerie's thought.
"Where is master tolack?" Lornetta asked with authority.
"Master tolack's ship had a malfunction......." Techla continued "his hyperdrive broke down as we made the jump to hyperspace- we where then given the orders to continue our journey as we couldn't waste time."
"So he will meet up with us soon" Valerie dared to ask.
"No. I have been put in charge of his portion of the fleet for the jump to hyperspace. I was then given instructions to hand them over to you on my arrival." Techla said dutifully.
"Yes, that is ok" lornetta said, with her tone of authority.
The three Jedi continued inventing their plan of attack.
"So my padawan will lead green squad on a direct course for the control ship. I will watch over here and keep the fleet firing on the control ship. But padawan Techla will lead red, blue, yellow and terror squads on an assault on the remaining cruisers. When the control ship has been destroyed we will proceed to finish off the remaining cruisers and escorts." Lornetta was just briefing her men, Techla and Valerie on the plan. In her mind it would work flawlessly.
Valerie took the liberty of looking back over the battle map just to make sure she would not forget, how upset her master would be if she messed up.... Again.... Anyway she looked over it to find that the enemy had under their control a large control ship, five dreadnaughts and probably countless fighter droids to spare, it in other words looked suicidal. But then she sighed, her master was thorough, she wouldn't let her padawan be at risk. So with a sigh, Valerie clicked off the holo image and decided to return to her quarters to meditate. It relaxed her, after all.
"I'm hit! I'm going down!" Valerie yells through her comm channel
"Stay calm, padawan!" Her master scolded her.
It was no use really; Valerie knew she was dead anyway her fighter was about to hit the surface of Korriban.
"I'm trying master" Valerie heard the channel begin to crackle, "I'm sorry I couldn't be a better padawan..." Valerie solemnly begged.
"Val-" her master attempted to reply but the comm channel lost connection.
Valerie was plummeting down to the surface of Korriban at an alarming rate. "Alone. I'm going to die alone. I thought I would die heroically in a duel with a Sith Lord.... Not being squished into a million pieces in a star fighter crash. This doesn't feel right." Valerie thought to herself. She felt as if she was just another Jedi that would die and be forgotten, another casualty of another war.
"No, I can survive this, my master would be upset if I didn't try." Valerie tried to reassure herself.
She quickly started bashing the controls in hope that she can find out what happened to the ship. Why is she falling?
"What? The Engines? They weren't shot they imploded? But how the mantinence clones checked them prior to my departure!" She pondered on why but began to realise that she was dangerously falling close to the surface. "Drat!" She exclaimed just before impact.
