Hickstead felt so different compared to Phantom— I can't even begin to say how much I miss my jumper! No stop focus, you only have 10 minutes until your the spot light of the jumping arena.
I cantered Hickstead around the arena focusing on a wind mill looking jump with white and brown striped poles about 6 foot high, Hickstead cleared it landing softly in the dirt. We have to jump inside today because it's raining out and it's so slick on the grass to be jumping, even if you have corks on. I saw Eric come back from the score board I trotted I've to the rail of the arena as people cantered around me.
"Who's first on the score board?" I ask Eric who is petting his medium sized Dutch Warmblood stallion.
"I don't know how and it's impossible but your on fifth place" he answered
"WHAT!?! How- I thought I was- you didn't answer my quest- wait are you pranking me?! You better not" I took a breath from talking so fast.
"I'm dead serious and Samiuel Conner is in first" he sighed
"Sam is a big idiot only good at hurting horses" I say
"Well you got that one right now go jump that triple combination before you get called in Cat" he says as I canter a circle then looking at the triple combination Hickstead pricks his ears and tucks his hooves under him for the first jump then the second and then the last one. We trot back to Eric
"How was it" I ask hoping it was good
"Perfect form over the fences Cat! I think we should go over to the—"please Cat Miller make your way over to try indoor meter 80 class please I repeat Cat Miller please make your way to the indoor meter 80 class." The announcer says
"We'll meet you over there" he says then smiles.
I walk over to the indoor arena trying not to think about what was right ahead of me, I wonder if Eric likes me like I mean like likes me? Nah Cat what are you think?? I shift my weight in the saddle as I day dream.
"Cat you coming inside before you get soked " Eric asks chuckling
"Wha- oh yep coming inside" I answer blushing a bit as Eric holds the door as I walk in with Hickstead under me. I sat at the edge of the arena watching Sam finish his course, which I have to admit was a nice round. He walked out of the arena staring at me then waves a bit, I just give him the death stare.
"Ok go do your stuff" Eric says beside me "Kim and Kate are in the bleachers." Go on now
I nod too nervous to talk as I trot into the huge jumping arena that was just recently harrowed and I salute taking a few seconds to breath. I canter him as the clock started I jumped the first and second jump clean, as we came to the British oxer Hickstead tried to steer away but I held in place as we jumped it huge, I recovered from the big take off and landing and focused on the bush jump in two strides I made it over.
