We walk the remainder of the way to the house in silence. My father humming quietly to himself as he takes in the beautiful evening weather, and me lost in thought. Momsie greets us as we enter the house.
"There you two are! I was wondering where you had gone off to. Supper is ready so come along and eat." Popsicle and I exchange grins, and follow Momsie As she hurries towards the dining room. "I was about ready to send Maizy after you two. She had said you went out to the garden."
I look momentarily confused. "Maizy?"
Momsie nods as we take our seats. "Maize is the young servant girl you spoke to earlier. She had said there was something you wished to talk to your father and I about, but upon hearing we were in a meeting you had said it could wait, and then she said you went for a walk in the rose garden. Now what is it you wished to talk about?" Momsie asks accepting a helping of seared fish.
Oh of course! How could I be so daft! Who else would have told Momsie and Popsicle I was in the garden or that I wished to speak with my parents.
"I was um, just wondering about the dress that was in my room. You know the black one that was laid over the chair by the window? You said it was Elphaba's. If that is the case how and why do you have it?" I look up from the roll I am buttering and notice Momsie suddenly is very still, pale and silently staring at me. I also notice Popsicle is equally silent and still, except that he is staring at Momsie and looks upset. No not upset, angry.
"Why do you want to know?" Popsicle growls and shifts his cold glare towards me.
"I... I just was wondering how it came to be here. That's all." I shift nervous and uncomfortably, breaking my gaze from his, and take a deep breath. "As the current leader of Oz I must know. You know for the sake of the people if there is any possibility that someone is going to cause more trouble by impersonating El- I mean the Witch it is my duty to prevent that from happening." I meet my father's gaze and wear my strongest leader look.
He narrows his eyes for a moment and when mother goes to answer he cuts her off. "Your mother found it in the back of your closet. We figured it had been accidentally left behind one of the times she came and visited. I had your mother tell the servants to get rid of it, and they must not have gotten around to it. Isn't that right Lorena?" He looks at my mother.
I notice Momsie lower her head and slowly start eating again. She nods and quietly whispers, "Yes, Highmuster is correct."
It was then I could tell he was lying because I had put on my magical necklace that's white gem turns black if someone lies, and it turned black. It was obvious to me now that Popsicle was hiding something or perhaps someone that he doesn't approve of. It takes everything within me to to keeps my hopes down, and from screaming at my father and calling him a liar.
After supper was finished we had stayed up for a short while talking about many different subjects, and it had to be near ten o'clock when I covered my mouth trying to hide a yawn. Momsie notices though and sends me off to bed, and as I head down the hall I hear Popsicle begin to angrily lecture Momsie. Unfortunately, someone closed the door only moments after he began to yell at her. I considered using Great Book of Records to see and hear what they were talking about until I remembered I left it back at the Emerald Palace, and so with a sigh I turn and head to my room.
