Chapter Fourteen:
"I can't believe you, I am so upset with you right now, I don't even have any words." Lauren complained, clearly over reacting as far as Cyro and Eshe could tell. They sat in the backroom of the cafe as Eshe closed up for the night. Eshe moved around the room checking to make sure all of the ovens and other machines were running properly before he headed out for a while, he was barely listening to his cousin ramble about being left out of his and Cyro's recent night out.
"You're talking quite a lot for someone who doesn't have any words, you've been complaining for at least fifteen minutes." Cyro whined shifting his weight from one foot to another as he leaned further against the light blue colored wall. "You didn't really even miss anything exciting so I don't get why you're so unhappy."
"I'm unhappy because you guys are keeping all the good stuff to yourselves! Like why don't I get to be a part of the interesting stuff, why do I have to wait til after it's ov-"
"I'm unhappy because you two are treating this like it's a soap opera!" Eshe scolded, turning to glare at them before shaking his head. He looked around once more, searching for his head manager, Lola, sending her a short wave when they made eye contact to let her know he'd be gone for a while. He and Cyro had made plans to go pick up a few more things for the girls birthday party while they would still be in school, Lauren had somehow smuggled her way in to being invited as well.
"Have fun you guys!" Lola shouted back before disappearing around a corner into the front of the cafe. The loud sounds of Monday madness rushed into the back room when the door opened briefly, instantly disappearing when the door shut once more. Eshe smiled to himself, just for a moment enjoying the irony of the cafe's name. The three of them left through a side door, making their way towards the small staff parking lot behind the building, where Cyro's pale blue car was parked.
"I want a husband that buys me random luxury cars." Lauren teased as Cyro unlocked the car. It was relatively new and they all knew he didn't really like it. It was a nice car but the problem was it was too nice, it was over the top like a lot of things his husband, Vance, owned. It didn't really fit Cyro and more than not he just felt it made him look out of place. "And a two thousand dollar wedding ring that's the exact same color"
"You can have mine." He replied, causing Eshe to roll his eyes as he settled into the passenger seat of the car. Pulling out his cellphone he opened a memo that listed the things they needed to pick up, he didn't doubt that they'd end up buying way more than the things on the list but he wanted to make sure that they at least got those items first.
"Which one?" Lauren teased leaning over the console to look at Eshe's phone even as she spoke to Cyro.
"Both, I hate this ring, hate Vance too." Cyro mumbled, shaking his head slightly when Eshe gave him a concerned look. Lately, he often dismissed the topic, which to Eshe was strange. Cyro's weird marriage was the main topic of the first conversations he and Eshe had ever had together but lately he'd been closed off about it to everyone. "Anyways, did you tell Jerome about what we talked about in the text messages?"
"What did you guys talk about in the text messages?" Lauren interrupted before Eshe had a chance to answer. Eshe didn't bother replying, the idea of explaining it seemed overly tiresome and he knew he'd just be attempting to talk over Lauren's complaints the entire time. Instead, he chose to open the text messages sent between Cyro and Aiden on his phone and handed the device to her. The conversation hadn't been too long, Cyro had put the situation into the most basic black and white explanations he could think of and Aiden had replied with the shortest answers he could seem to manage. In the end, they had agreed that he would come see Alice at the end of the week.
"Yeah, we talked about it after you left and then I told Alice. She's excited he'll be here on her actual birthday, though she's hoping he'll be able to stay for her birthday party too, but I told her I wasn't sure if he would. Jerome seems on edge, he's like a dog trying to pee on everything before some other one comes in to try and mark his territory. It's stupid but it's kinda sweet too, I guess." Eshe sighed pulling his hair down from the messy bun he'd been keeping it in all day, letting it fall down over his shoulders as he thought of how the next week would go.
It was Monday, the girls had decided to have the birthday party on the upcoming Saturday since Alice's birthday was on Friday and Maxine's was on Sunday. By Wednesday Eshe hoped every detail of the birthday party would be in place but he knew otherwise. It would be a disaster, Cyro would complain about the decorations or something and they'd have to switch around a bunch of things. Then Friday would come and his biggest fear would be sitting in his living room expecting answers Eshe didn't want to say out loud.
Lauren handed him back his cell as the car fell into a comfortable silence. Eshe thumbed through the text messages Cyro had sent to Aiden, he'd looked through them more times than he could count but no matter how many times he read over them he couldn't grasp Aiden's feelings. His answers were too short to analyze any type of meaning. Honestly, Eshe wasn't sure how Aiden would feel, it was obvious he felt obligated, whether that was to Eshe, Alice or both of them he wasn't sure but Eshe couldn't tell if there was anything else.
