Chapter Twelve:
Eshe rushed down the stairs of the five story club, Cyro right behind him. He didn't care, he knew he could out run his best friend it was just a matter of shoving through all the other people in the club. The sheer amount of people rubbing against him made him wish he hadn't listened to Cyro when he suggested he wear his purple sweater dress. He tried not to focus on that as he pushed past even more people finally stumbling into the third floor bar and lounge, the floor was the quietest, he scanned the floor quickly finding the restroom.
"Eshe, I fucking swear-" He heard Cyro curse but he didn't bother look back, his eyes locked onto the door, darting towards it as his hands roamed his dress pocket pulling out his phone as he moved. His free hand finally touched the door pushing the swing door open with way more force than necessary. Startling a man at the urinal, he did a double take at Eshe before frowning but he didn't care. His phone was in his hand and it was ringing.
"Hello?" He answered on the third ring, the familiar voice bringing an immediate smile to Eshe face, a small wave of relief washed over him until another loud crash of the bathroom door pulled his attention away from the call. Turning he watched Cyro storm in pushing the man who'd been using the urinal out of the way as he stalked past.
"Usurper!" Eshe jumped at Cyro's harsh tone, instinctively holding his cellphone out of reach from Cyro's grasp. "Tell Jerome he can fuck right off! We're supposed to be having fun!"
"But he called me like three times already! It's rude not to take his call!" Eshe shouted back causing Cyro to narrow his eyes at him. The intense gaze of his blue eyes made Eshe feel like he was being scolded by his own mother but he refused to give in. "I dressed up, I did my hair, I'm wearing heels! Cyro I've let you drag me to this club and I've tried my hardest to have fun! Please just let me have five minutes to talk to him!"
"You get two." Cyro sighed pulling his phone from the back pocket of his tight black jeans. Eshe frowned as his best friend stared at his phone obviously pulling opening his stopwatch, clearly intent on making sure he wouldn't go over his allotted time. Eshe smiled slightly shaking his head but deciding it was better than arguing with his best friend. Lowering the phone from where he'd held it out of Cyro's reach he settled it next to his ear.
"Hey, sorry about that, Cyro say I get two minutes."
"He gets really serious about friend time or whatever, huh?" Jerome laughed nervously before clearing his throat preparing to say something else. Eshe had tried not to worry too much about his fiance but truthfully he wasn't sure how to feel about it. Jerome had obviously been keeping his distance and Eshe had chose to respect that even if part of him felt bad knowing he was mainly respecting it because he was happy for the break. "So, I've been thinking about this whole Alice thing, um, honestly I never thought I'd have to meet her father or anything like that."
"I know, I'm sorry I wasn't more honest." Eshe sighed pulling down his dress as he sat on the edge of the sink counter. He looked at Cyro, who was smiling at a text on his phone.
"After thinking about it though I get why you didn't say anything, and I get that this is hard for you cause you never thought you'd be involved with the guy again so I'm sorry for being unreasonable about it and I promise to be more understanding from now on."
"Thanks Jerome, that really means a lot" Eshe replied releasing a shaky breath he didn't know what he'd been expecting but he was so happy that Jerome seemed to be over any issues he was having. "You know, you should really come to the house tomorrow so we can talk abo-"
"Times up!" Cyro interrupted snatching the phone from Eshe before he could finish his sentence, holding it up to his own ear to speak to Jerome. "Hey Jerome glad you and Eshe worked it out but he promised to be mine for the night so bye bye."
Eshe heard Jerome voice trying to say something on the other end but Cyro hung up before he could get out his thought. Looking down at his friend Eshe almost wanted to be angry but found himself laughing instead. He wasn't sure if he was laughing at Cyro's actions or if he was laughing because he was relieved that things seemed to be working themselves out. Cyro shook his head, obviously trying to appear stern but fail as his face broke into a smile before holding Eshe's phone out to him.
"Thanks Cyro, I really love you, ya know." Eshe told him holding his hand out for his phone.
"I love you too Eshe, I'm happy everything's working out." Cyro replied pushing the phone into Eshe's palm. He took it back taking a deep breath, slipping the phone into his dress pocket, as he readied himself to go back into the club with Cyro. He opened his mouth to tell Cyro he was ready to go back but closed it as his ringtone filled the room. Cyro rolled his eyes, motioning a hand at Eshe. "Go ahead it's probably Jerome wanting you to say a real goodbye or something."
Eshe nodded, laughing slightly as it was definitely something Jerome would do. Pulling the phone from his pocket his smile dropped, clenching his teeth he stared at his phone. Cyro watched him, his blue eyes clouding with worry as he stepped closer to look at Eshe screen.
"I don't know this number." Eshe frowned, his hand shaking as his best friend gently took the phone from him. Cyro looked at the phone, checking the number, before looking back at Eshe his finger poised over the green answer button. Eshe could tell by the look on his face he wouldn't answer it if Eshe told him not to. Truthfully he wasn't prepared for this, even with Jerome just having promised he would try harder he wasn't prepared.
Time was running out, he knew his phone wouldn't ring forever and he knew he would be far too scared to make the call if it was him. If he left a voice mail or sent him a text. Then it would fall on Eshe, it nearly killed him with nerves the first time he'd tried to call him, there was no way Eshe could make himself do it again. Looking up at Cyro, he locked gazes with his best friend who simply smiled his crystal blue gaze silently asking Eshe what he wanted to do.
Eshe gave him a hesitant nod.
