Lizzy's POV
"I give up." Alex chucked his cards into the center and fell back, looking up at the ceiling.
"I told you I was the master." Quinn stated, tossing his cards too.
"I think I'm done playing." Lucinda grumbled, gathering up everyone's cards and handing them to me. "I didn't sign up to sit next to Alex."
Alex grabbed her in a headlock. "Come on, you love me."
Lucinda slipped out of it. "Yup I'm definitely done." She fixed her pants and headed for the hallway.
"Oh Luc come on." Alex called after her, getting up.
"I'm going to our room too." Sammy grabbed her phone and shut off the music.
"Ugh fine." Alex followed Sammy and Justin to their room. Dean got up and waved to Quinn for him to follow him. The two left, with Elana and Carl in tow. Will helped me clean up before yawning. "I'm tired." And then he and Jess left too. I stacked the games in the corner and slouched onto the couch. I heard Alex blasting Shawn Mendes in his room. "They're quite the handful." Evan noted, with a wink.
"Yeah." He sat down next to me and Jeff slid in next to him.
"Lets watch a movie." Jeff said, pointing to the rack with his head.
"Can we watch a horror." Evan asked, getting up.
"Yeah." Jeff looked at me and then raised his eyes, a smirk plastered on his face. "If Lizzy gets scared I'll hold her." He moved over into Evan's seat.
"Outta my seat." Evan said, popping in a disk and coming back.
"What movie is it?" I asked curiously.
"The Shining."
I let out a snort. "I watched that with Sammy and Alex when they were six."
Evan squeezed in between us. "Call me crazy, but the whole ten years I was down here, I was too afraid to watch it."
I grabbed the remote and paused the trailers. "Pardon?"
He turned white and cursed. "Yeah this was my old bunker. I lived with my three older brothers, two younger sisters, and parents. We were originally supposed to bunk with some other family down here but..." He took a deep breath. "We watched them all die. Zombified and then a bullet in their skull. They let us know the radiation was about to reach us." He looked down. "We all would've died." I put my hand on his arm and squeezed it. "Let'sjust watch the movie." He muttered, making no effort to shake my hand off. I let it linger before putting it back into my lap. He played the movie and we watched most of it in silence. Jeff got up somewhere towards the end to go to his room. I found myself drifting off, and by the time the movie was over, I was fast asleep.
Justin's POV
I came down for lunch to see Lizzy curled up, her head in Evan's lap. He gave me a small wave and switched off the TV. It was some sort of emergency broadcast I noticed, before he turned it off. I gave him a questioning look, pointing at the TV. 'Its nothing.' He mouthed. Lucinda and Alex had waken up from their naps and had come out for lunch.
Alex was much less quiet than I was. "Ay!" He called, sliding down the hall in his socks. "I'm hungry."
Lucinda slapped his side, pointing to Lizzy. "Besides," she said, her voice soft. "You just ate not even a few hours ago."
Sammy came out too and my heart fluttered. "Hey." She said, poking my gut before going over to sit next to Lizzy. "How long she been asleep?" Sammy asked Evan.
"Eh an hour."
"Wake her up, we're having sandwiches. And then go wake everyone else up."
Evan seemed taken aback by her straightforwardness but gave her a salute and stood up. "Yes ma'am."
Sammy left for the kitchen, Alex trailing her.
Lucinda moved to stand next to me. "He's something, ain't he?"
I chuckled at her bad grammar. "Someone's been hanging around Will." I said with a nudge.
"Well he is cute." She said, blushing.
"You want to know something?" I asked, turning to face her.
"Hm?"
"So is Alex." She stared at me. "Or so it looks." I shrugged. "I mean, you seem to like him plenty." She continued to stare at me. "Just throwing it out there, maybe you're trying to make someone jealous."
Her face flushed a brighter red. "You really are smart, aren't you?"
I shrugged again. "Maybe." And then I left for the kitchen.
Sammy looked up at me when I walked in and she let out a sigh of relief. "Please help." She motioned to Alex, who was resting his head on her shoulder, watching her make the sandwiches. "He's not making it easy to cut the bread." Alex backed up and pouted. "But I'm hungry."
"You're fat." I said.
He let out a weird noise. "You're fat!"
And then he stormed off for the living room.
"He's not actually fat." Sammy said, dropping her knife to grab the butter from the fridge.
"Nah, but I like playing with him." She let out a laugh, stacking the sandwiches on a plate. "Evan was watching an emergency broadcast." I blurted out.
"Oh?" She asked, a shadow crossing her face.
"I don't know for sure, but it looked disturbing." I felt embarrassed for telling her now.
"Disturbing how?" She asked curiously, picking up the plate of sandwiches.
"People yelling and stuff, fire."
Her eyes widened. "Fire?" She asked, concerned.
"Yeah. I didn't even know people were broadcasting things anymore." I said, watching her walk over to the table.
"I guess they are." She lowered her voice. "You don't think Evan knows something we dont, do you?"
I gave her a questioning look, sitting down at the table. "He's a guard. Of course he knows stuff we don't know."
She swatted me on the head. "You know what I mean. Like, stuff that would endanger our own lives."
"Things are changing Sam. One cannot know for certain."
She let out a sigh and called for everyone to come eat. The first ones to sit down next to me were Lucinda, Alex, and Lizzy.
"Its the squad." Alex said, his face already full of food.
"It feel like our last dinner together." Lucinda muttered, taking a small bite of her sandwich. Lizzy reached for her sandwich and said nothing. Sammy also took her sandwich and then handed the plate to me.
"The one with the blue toothpick is cheese and ham." She said, smiling. "Just how you like it."
I muttered a thanks and took a bite. She slid into the chair next to me, and the 'squad' ate in silence.
Alexander's POV
Everyone took their sandwiches eventually, and most went back to bed. Waking someone up at one in the morning and then stuffing them all back into a bunker took a lot out of you. It was only Lizzy, Justin, Lucinda, Sammy, Dean, and Evan in the small living area. It was boring, and my heart ached at even the thought of staying down here for a few months. I put my feet up on the armrest of the couch and let my head fall into Sammy's lap.
"I'm bored." I said for the hundredth time.
She patted me. "Yes Alexander, we know. Can you get your head off of me please."
I gave her a drunken salute and slid off the couch, landing hard on my butt. Lucinda let out a giggle.
"Yeah yeah real funny." I said, standing up.
"Your ass is a bit dirty." Justin said.
"Oh? You want to get that for me?" Justin came over from the table and dusted off my pants with his hand.
"Thanks." I said, winking at him.
"No problem baby." He said, stifling a laugh. Lucinda let out a sigh and stood up too.
"I'm going back to the room." She blurred and then was gone. I heard her smack the wall in the room and a rude word was shouted, even for her standards.
"She just run at super speed?" Justin asked, staring me down.
"More importantly, did she just say damn?" Sammy asked, closing her book. Lucinda rounded the corner, her face paler than usual.
"That was awesome!" Lizzy said with a smile.
"Yeah well, i don't like it." Lucinda said, looking at her feet like she still couldn't believe it. I don't blame her; i didn't either.
Sammy put her arm on Lucinda's shoulder. "Still, its impressive." Lucinda let out a huff and left at walking speed back towards her room.
"That was enough excitement for one day." Evan said with a sigh. "I'm heading to bed. See you guys at dinner."
He left, and so did Lizzy. As soon as they were out of earshot, i turned towards Justin and Sammy.
"So?" I asked, my hands open. "We ship them?"
Sammy wiggled her eyebrows. "I think they're already a thing. You see the way Lizzy looks at Evan."
Justin grinned and put his arm on Sammy's head. Yes, he was really tall. "No, i see the way Evan looks at Lizzy. He's literally flirting with his eyes."
Sammy let out a snort and turned to walk away. "Oh. Dean." She said surprised."Yeah i forgot you existed."
Dean smirked, but didn't say anything. Why would he say anything.
"Let's go back to our room." Justin said, leaving. We followed.
"Lucinda's sleeping i think." I said, motioning for Justin to quietly open the door. Lucinda was not sleeping. She was sitting on her bed looking at us expectantly. "Hey Luc." I said, grabbing the rungs to the ladder. I leaned against the wall in a sitting position. "What should we do later?" I asked, looking up at the ceiling.
Justin opened his mouth to talk, but Sammy beat him to it. "First, Evan was watching some sort of emergency broadcast station on the tele. I don't know if i trust him now." Justin laughed quietly. "You have to, he's Lizzy's future boyfriend."
"Are you sure he's not flirting with her just to gain our trust?" Lucinda asked.
We all went silent.
Lucinda's POV
"Spin the bottle. Sam spin the bottle." Justin let out a huff and fell back into the wall hard.
"Sam you're mad." I said, chucking a pillow at her.
"You dont have to play if you don't want to. Im bored. Besides, its all in good fun."
"Thats the most cliche thing I've ever heard. You either want someone to kiss or to kiss someone else." I said, catching the pillow she threw back at me.
"Is it wrong to say i want you and Alex to kiss." It was Alex's turn to throw something at her.
"ALEX! Thats a BOOK!" Sammy said, dodging it.
"Sorry, but you deserved it."
Justin had been quiet but finally spoke. "I want to give it a try." He said simply.
"Justin? You of all people?" Alex asked, surprised. "
Yeah." He said. "Couldn't hurt. It is a game after all."
Alex's eyebrows went up. "Dont want to miss the chance to kiss me baby?"
Justin covered his mouth in mock surprise. "Alex, not in front of the children!"
Sammy let out a laugh.
"Why not." Alex said, jumping down. "Spin the bottle it is. Round up the troops!"
He raised a fist in the air, and Justin and Sammy sprinted out. He slid down next to me on the floor.
"You dont have to play if you dont want to. It is just a game, but i understand your innocence." I looked into his eyes.
"I mean..." I wasn't sure to be honest. Suddenly i felt a surge of confidence. "Yeah sure." I stood up, questioning myself a lot. His grin grew wider and my heart melted.
