I was excited as well as nervous. The next day, I will be performing in the public for the first time.
Negativity filled me like anything...
What if I couldn't do well?
OR what if I missed a step?
OR what if I trip and fell? But it was a good thing was that the ground belonged to our college so we had the authority to practice all the formations on the grass.
Mrs William did her best to encourage our team and especially me.
She explained that we were supposed to perform before the tournament as it takes too long to score in a soccer match. She also said that there was a competition sort of thing between our cheerleading team and the rival's.
This sounded lame to me. I mean we were there, just for cheering, and the actual match was that of soccer then why was there a dance competition?
But I was no one to question what had been going on for years. The match was supposed to start at 9 but we had to report an hour ago.
The night before, I was unable to sleep.
I kept on practising again and again till the time mom came to my room and asked me to stop.
Then she also had a point. I didn't want to look tired on the final day.____________________________
Melly and I reached the soccer ground sharp at 8. Our team was already there.
The soccer team was practising.
Melly saw Rowan and winked.
Rowan smiled but kept on playing.Melly made a face because he didn't come to meet her.
"Why don't you focus on your own game?" I asked.
"I mean, I am his girlfriend and look how ignorant he is." She said.I gave up. No use of wasting time on this girl.
We walked across the field to reach Miss William and others.
Derek was there too.
Of course, he ought to.I stole a glance at him.
He looked so hot in that black vest.
His abs were clearly visible. I have seen him in the white jersey but never in a vest.Looked somewhat like...
He was dripping wet.
He wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at me.I took my eyes off him.
Shit! I felt so embarrassed.I was supposed to hate this guy for insulting and here I was, admiring him.
We got into our short blue and white outfits. It was 8:30 when people started arriving.
At 9 all the arrangements were made and both the cheerleading teams stepped into the ground.
The rival team's cheerleaders were in red and black, their head was ebony.
"Hey, she is ebony!" I exclaimed.
"Don't be such a racist, I have heard that when she moves, everything blows off" she said and the other team started performing.
She did blew up everything. But her group didn't supported her. So we had a lead.
Our performance was a huge success and when we reached the corner Miss William congratulated me.
We were supposed to sit with the team and not in the audience.
The whistle blew and the match began. I didn't watch the entire match, I was trying to ignore Derek but he was covering the entire ground.
The final whistle...
SCORE: 4-2.
We won. After the match got over, everyone got mad. Melly rushed to Rowan and kissed him and so did the others whereas I sat on my seat, unaffected by the plague of victory that just swept over everyone.
I saw Derek walking to me.
He looked straight at me.
For a time I wondered if there was someone behind me.I turned and found no one, which meant that he was coming towards me.
He came and sat beside me.
I looked away, pulled out my phone and started scrolling.
Then he said "You performed beautifully"That was it, I couldn't ignore him or his icy cold stare anymore so I must leave.
"Thank you" I said and got up, took my bag and flee towards the exit
"Hey" he said and followed me, he was out of breath, vigorously panting.
I didn't stop or turned back, just walked straight to the parking.
"Stop" he said and grabbed my wrist.
"What does this mean? Leave me, NOW." I said firmly and jerked my hand.
He left it. And there I stood right in front of him.
I was supposed to turn back and walk away but NO, I couldn't.He smelled bad.
"What is it that you want? Why don't you leave me alone?" I asked him.
"Forgive me for what I said at Cooper's party." he said.
What? And where was the word SORRY??
"You insulted me. You are not worthy of forgiveness." I said.
"Please, I am sorry. That time it was hard to believe but now I have seen it" he said.
Oh! There it was.
"Seen what?" I asked and acted normal, although from the inside my heartbeat increased.
"That you dance like an angel" he said.
"Shut up!" I smiled for the first time.
Actually it was blushing."Why don't you come and join us?" he said.
I went back to the ground with him. Silently.
Oh God! What was happening?
What has changed this guy?But then it was good for me. So I blended with the flow.
