Tris POV

Bags in my hand, I walk to the dorm. I can't believe I got accepted at the Divergent School of the Arts. I am practiced in self defense and I am a black belt in Krav Maga, Taekwondo, Karate, and Aikido. I am also a skilled artist who can paint watercolor, can shade, and can use spray paint. I don't like to brag about what I do though. I did arrive in the school late, and it is almost Halloween.

I head to the front desk where the person there gives me my room keys. I head to my room, which is #666. I put my belongings away, which doesn't take very long. I decide that I want to work out today in the gym and I head there. I change into yoga pants, a sports bra, and I put my hair in a high ponytail.

I head to the track outside first. I do ten laps around that and then I head to the gym where I practice Karate and Krav Maga. I drink a long sip from my water bottle before I head back. I see a girl entering the gym who waves to me. I wave back and she starts to walk towards me. She has mocha skin and chin length black hair and pretty brown eyes.

"Hi!" She says. "Are you new?"

"Um yeah, I am!"

"Well, I'll help you with the basics here. I'm a major in dance. I have three friends. Shauna, Marlene, and Lynn. Oh and I'm Christina!

There are some people here you can get to know, but there are others you should stay away from. You can always join me and my friends, we don't bite. You can also hang out with the most popular band who are also our friends, their name is the Dauntless. It consists of Will, Four, Uriah, and Zeke. Oh, don't get too flirty over Four, I mean, I know he's hot, but he's gonna just avoid people and crush their hearts. He's out of everyone's league, even yours. And I'm telling you this because you seem like a nice person and I don't want him to break your heart. Stay away from Lauren, she's the queen bee here and don't get too comfy with Four or she'll be on to you. Stay away from Peter, Al and Eric, they are just downright creepy. And there is a masquerade in a few days. Are you going?"

"I don't know, most likely not."

"Ok," she says, "but you're welcome to hang out with us anytime. Here's my number, call me if you want to hang out." She hands me a slip of paper with her number on it and I nod, smiling.

"I will, Christina. Soon."

"Ok, see you soon....uh, what's your name?"

"Tris!"

"Ok, bye Tris!"

Wow, is that girl talkative! I go back to my room, take a shower, and I look in my bag. I see something in a bag, but there is a note on it. I tear off the note and read it.

Beatrice,

I have a dress for you for the annual masquerade. Don't look at it! I set up an appointment with the same stylist who did my hair for the dance when I was at your school. Her name is Tori. She's a sweet person, so trust her, ok? I love you honey, and we all miss you back at home.

Love from,

Mom

I smile. Looks like I'm going to the masquerade after all.
