We lost track of time, holding each other and watching the sun go down over the horizon. Rye hadn't moved an inch and was humming softly to a song I didn't recognize, while gently touching my arm. I was so comfortable that I would soon fall asleep and I couldn't let that happen because for sure, Sam would be furious that she hadn't heard from me all day. Especially, considering that little note I scribbled before I left and the text message I evaded.

I was thinking of a few excuses to say goodbye to Rye and also, trying to find enough will to move, but it was certainly the last thing I wanted to do. Rye distracted me from my thoughts when he spoke softly.

- I know I must be the person you would least trust right now and I wouldn't blame you either, but can you tell me what happened to you?

- Look, for some strange reason I don't know yet, I trust you enough to tell you. - I blushed and told him honestly. - I had a fight with my brother. It was very... intense, and he said hurtful things. Of course I'm to blame too, but it still hurts like hell.

- I know what you mean. Sometimes family hurts us the most. It's a shame that you can't choose another one before you're born. - he says with a mixture of sadness and resentment. Then he turns away from me, as if suddenly uncomfortable with what he just said. - Wait, he's the one who did that to your face?

- No no, I did this to myself. Because I'm stupid. - I let out a laugh and sigh. - I'm grateful for the family I have. I just wish things were different sometimes. - I tell him sincerely and he just nods. - Why would you want to choose another one?

- Because I'd like to - he just replies and looks nervous, so I decide not to push him. - And you're not stupid, Megan.

- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude on your life. - I rest my hand on his leg to calm him down. He looks at me and smiles slightly.

- No, it's okay. It's just something I don't like to talk about.

- So what do you want to talk about? -I ask and he just shrugs. -Ummm... What do you like to do besides singing?

- That I can answer. - he says smiling openly and seems to have recovered that spark of energy that characterizes him. - Let's see... I like skateboarding, going to Nando's, drinking tea (which is almost like an addiction), working out, going to Nando's, I also know how to do parkour and I'm good at it, but I don't like to brag about my skills, you know!

- Yeah, I can see you don't brag at all! - I say rolling my eyes, letting out a laugh. - And of course you're good... just like a fucking ninja!

- What, a ninja? - he asks with a chuckle. - It's the first time I've ever been told something like that!

- Well, it's the truth. With all those flips and jumps you did that day, it's not too hard to believe. - I smile and blush just remembering how many times I tried to look away from him in Gravity.

- You mean the backflips? It's not complicated at all. - he says smiling with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He stands up, bends his knees a little and in one swift motion, flips backwards in front of my eyes and of course, lands perfectly. He sits back down, elbowing me lightly in the ribs, smiling arrogantly. - I told you I'm good. And now I have to charge you for the show, only the first time is free.

- Yeah, whatever. Dream on Ryan. - I roll my eyes again, but smile giving him a nudge; his humor is very refreshing. - Besides, I didn't bring any money. That's too bad.
