29th day of Grade Nine.
It was lunch break, and Lenn decided to eat from the cafeteria, since his mom had given him allowance this day. Best mom ever.
Lenn picked up his tray, and went to look out for a table. He could see two spare tables. He decided to go to the table nearest him. He still hasn't seen Magnus.
"Hey, Lenton!" Flynt and another guy that Lenn didn't know showed up behind him, and both of them ruffled his hair annoyingly. They hopped away while laughing. What the fuck?
Lenn absolutely hated people like Flynt: assholes. Lenn wished that they would all die in a fire.
Lenn sat down on the side of the table where he could see the entire canteen. Everyone around him was conversing with people on the same table. It was sad how Lenn didn't have anyone to sit next to. He looked for Magnus, but couldn't find him.
Lenn grabbed his spoon and fork, and started gobbling up the rice and the chicken that he both got from the canteen. It tasted bland to Lenn. Even with the gravy, Ernesto High School really needed to work on their food production. Well, Lenn didn't know what to expect in a rural public school, so he assumed that this was as good as it got.
After a few scoops of rice, he looked up, and saw Magnus, walking toward the spare table alone. Lenn wanted to call him, but he had food in his mouth, so he waited awhile until Magnus could see him himself.
Magnus sat on the side of the table facing the entire canteen, meaning both of them could see each other. Magnus lifted his eyebrows when he saw Lenn. Lenn smiled. Magnus was gesturing to Lenn's mouth. Lenn used his fork-holding hand to remove the grain of rice under his nose. Magnus lifted his tray, and went to sit with Lenn.
Wait, Magnus was going to sit next to Lenn at lunch? Lenn couldn't believe it. This would be the first time someone actually sat next to him during lunch break. Lenn couldn't help but feel happy.
Magnus sat on the opposing side of Lenn, and said, "Hey, Lenn."
Lenn replied, "Hey, Magnus."
As Magnus picked up his utensils, he grinned. "Thanks for finally calling me by my first name."
Lenn snickered, causing a few grains to expectorate on the table. Magnus scooped a spoon-full into his mouth.
Lenn asked, "So how are you doing?"
Magnus answered, "Despite completely dying during our Filipino subject, I'm doing fairly well."
Lenn remembered that Magnus was half American, so he would have actually had a hard time during that subject. Lenn felt sorry.
Lenn said, "I'm sorry."
"Why are you being sorry? This would've been the part where you totally would have bragged about how you're better than me in that subject."
"Oh yeah. HA! I'm better than you in Filipino!"
"Doesn't count anymore, smarty pants."
"Don't call me that!"
Magnus laughed, luckily while there was nothing inside his mouth.
Lenn saw a bunch of people walking past his table, probably surprised that Lenn had actually someone to sit with. Some of them even raised their eyes at him. Lenn didn't do anything about it though.
Magnus, wondering what Lenn was looking at, turned his back to see what the people were doing. Immediately, they all went back to talking and eating.
