A/N: This is just an assignment (due today, Monday, by the way) for my poetry class... I hope it's acceptable and the reading goes over well (I don't do so well reading personal creations in front of a class =S ). Wish me luck!

Sonnet

North winds blow menacingly through the streets,

Throwing fistfuls of snow in the way

Like a pique child wreaking havoc at the feet

Of passersby, who want not to stay

To see the unmarked plains, which make that child gay.

“O, child! O, Freedom! Do not fuss!” I cried,

I am here ready to be carried away

In your wintry and whirling embrace, which plied.

But wait! Let me bid farewell to Love, who lied

About a life of changes he would not make.

Love promised a new life unlike passersby,

But fell in their steps, with my heart to break.

O! Whisk me away from Love’s cruelty

And lavish me in your cold liberty!
