Leucos's POV

I stretched and gazed up at the sky from where I laid, tucked in my blankets. The moon was obscured by the ever shifting clouds that permanently blanketed the sky. There were no insects chirping in the swamp, everything had a strange timeless quality to it. Frankly, it annoyed me.

My ears picked up the sound of movement, and as I turned my head I saw Ramael get up and walk a towards the edge of the camp. "What the hell is he thinking?!" I said to myself as I stood up and slowly followed him, taking care to not wake the others. For a moment I thought I had woken Tyra, however she remained propped against a tree snoring softly, every so often muttering words in her native tongue.

Eventually I picked my way towards the top of the hill we had decided to camp on, and found Ramael gazing across the swamp. It was an odd sight, he was so small, yet at the same time he was slightly older than me. I walked up and hugged him from behind, my head resting on his shoulder.

"When can we tell them?" Ramael whispered.

I sighed and turned him to face me. "It's not the right time yet."

"When is the right time! I'm tired of hiding." His agitation evident in his tone of voice.

"I know. I am too. But you know our duty comes first. We've come so far, we can't afford to fail." I said, my hands still on his shoulders. My eyes could just barely see the outline of his face, I could feel him leaning in slightly, and suddenly, he was kissing me. His right hand cupped the side of my face, while the other was placed on my lower back, giving me a comforting feeling.

As we broke apart he spun me around and sat down on the grass. I slid down with him, my back placed against his chest. Shortly after his arms encircled me, holding me loosely as we gazed out into the empty swamp.

"You know, I missed you." Ramael said while running one of his hands through my hair. My eyes were closed and I simply nodded in response.

Ramael sighed, and the kissed me lightly on the top of my head before saying, "I think after everything is said and done, you and I should get away for a bit. Maybe find some place to settle down."

"I'd like that, settling down with my partner." I said.

"Don't call me a partner, you sound like an old merchant when you call me that." Ramael chuckled while tightening his hold on me ever so slightly.

"What would you prefer I called you?" I asked while rolling my eyes, forgetting he couldn't see the gesture.

Ramael paused for a moment before replying "How about significant other?"

"More like significant annoyance." I snorted.

"Hey be nice." He whined.

I leaned forward and turned slightly. "I was kidding." I said before pecking him once on the lips.

Apparently he wasn't satisfied by this as he flipped us over so that my back was on the ground and he was leaning down from above me.

"If you're going to be mean, you're going to pay for it." He said as he stared down at me.

"Don't make it weird Ra-" I was cut off by his lips as they crashed into mine. My hands, seemingly on their own accord were soon gripping the back of his shirt. Soon enough, he deepened the kiss and ended up fighting each other for dominance. He won, even though I let him, and as we broke for air, I rolled him over and stared down into his eyes.

"Not bad, for an amateur." I said teasingly.

Ramael narrowed his eyes, "Amateur?" he hissed out.

"What do you mean amateur? I'm the only person you've been with."

"True, although that doesn't mean you're good." I said.

"How would you know?!" He said, his voice raised.

"Shhh! Try not to wake the others up, this would be kind of hard to explain, anyway. This is how you kiss." I said.

"What are y-" I kissed him, and shortly after we deepened the kiss. This time we rolled several times over the hill, each trying to beat the other. Eventually he gave up and let me win. We broke apart and came up for air. I was panting slightly as I gazed down at him.

"You know, you're kinda cute when you're excited." Ramael said while winking.

"Oh my gods what is wrong with you!" I whisper yelled.

"I'm crazy, crazy for you." He said while wiggling his eyebrows.

I sighed, "If that was a pickup line, you failed. Miserably."

"I can't pickup what I already have." He deadpanned.

"This is true." I responded before rolling off him and onto the grass. As I sat up, I felt him wrap his arms around my torso. His head was placed on my should, I could feel his heartbeat as he continued to cover me from behind, almost like a blanket.

"I love you, you know that right?" He said.

"I know." I responded.

We sat on top of the hill for several hours, talked, hugged, and relished every moment together. It wasn't often we had time to be ourselves around each other due to the many rules and regulations placed on us as guides. Eventually the had horizon begun to lighten, and the fog once again became visible.

I sighed. "We should head back."

"Don't wanna" Ramael whined, burying his face in my neck.

"C'mon. We need to rest, and we don't need them finding out just yet." I said.

Silence greeted me as Ramael continued to ignore my words.

"You know I'm right. They'll both get angry if things don't go as they planned. I'm not too fond of pissing them off after all." I said.

Ramael hugged me to his chest even tighter before finally releasing me. We both stood up and I turned to face him. I leaned forward and kissed him, although this kiss was bittersweet, as we both knew it would be a while before we could do this again. Ramael gently pushed me back and wiped his eyes before he headed back down the camp. I watched him go, my heart slowly sinking, until eventually I snapped myself out of it and headed back.
